RESOLUTION NO. 26-081
RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
AMES MAIN STREET FARMERS’ MARKET
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the Ames Regional Economic Alliance is planning to host the annual
Ames Main Street Farmers’ Market this summer, which will take place in the 200, 300, and
400 blocks of Main Street and on Burnett Avenue from Main Street to the U.S. Bank drive -
through; and,
WHEREAS, the Market will operate on Saturdays from May 2 through October 17,
2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and,
WHEREAS, to facilitate the events, organizers have requested that the
aforementioned streets be closed from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on these Saturdays to allow
for set-up and tear-down for each of the Markets; and,
WHEREAS, organizers have further requested the use of Tom Evans Plaza
between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for vendor booths and entertainment; and,
WHEREAS, as in previous years, this space would be used for entertainment and
educational activities for children and families; however, to prevent damaging the turf in the
Plaza, vendors will no longer be permitted to use Tom Evans Plaza; and,
WHEREAS, the Main Street Farmers’ Market has successfully attracted visitors to
Ames Main Street for the last several years, and it has become a signature event in Ames,
enhancing the local economy and providing a family-friendly activity that showcases the
Ames community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that the requested street closures in the 200, 300, and 400 blocks of Main Street
and on Burnett Avenue from Main Street to the U.S. Bank drive-through and closure of Tom
Evans Plaza for the Main Street Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from May 2 through
October 17, 2026, from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. are hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of February, 2026.
