RESOLUTION APPROVING COST SHARING AGREEMENT WITH MANATT'S, INC.
FOR THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS (BASIN 11) PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Ames has an 18" sanitary sewer main in an easement
running through properties located at 2110 and 2120 E. 13th Street. As part of the
Sanitary Sewer System Improvements (Basin 11) project, this sewer main will have a liner
installed to reduce inflow and infiltration and restore structural capacity; and,
WHEREAS, during the design phase of the project, the property owner, Manatt’s
Inc., contacted City staff to request permission to utilize existing sanitary sewer easement
areas for stockpiling concrete and asphalt materials meant for recycling to fill an existing
ravine on the property. Such use is not permitted without City consent under the terms of
the existing sanitary sewer easement; and,
WHEREAS, City staff has agreed to allow Manatt’s to use the sanitary sewer
easement areas, provided that Manatt’s pays its share of the increased project costs
related to thicker diameter liners required to support future stockpiling activities and the
filling of the ravine within the easement areas; and,
WHEREAS, the City and Manatt’s Inc. have agreed to a Cost Sharing Agreement
for the increased project costs in the amount of $91,440. Manatt’s is also aware that
approval from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is required prior to filling
the ravine and that such approval is not included as part of this agreement.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that the Cost Sharing Agreement with Manatt's, Inc. for the Sanitary Sewer System
Improvements (Basin 11) project in the amount of $91,440 is hereby approved.
