RESOLUTION APPROVING SUSPENSION OF PARKING REGULATIONS AND
ENFORCEMENT OF METERED PARKING SPACES
FOR AMES MAIN STREET SNOW MAGIC EVENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA
WHEREAS, Ames Main Street (AMS) plans to host its annual Snow Magic
Celebration December 1 through December 31, 2026. The event will kick off on
December 3 and continue throughout the month with promotions in Downtown
businesses; and,
WHEREAS, AMS staff has made the request to close 4 metered parking
spaces on the east side of Douglas Avenue (between 5th Street and Main Street) from
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to facilitate sleigh rides during the kick off event on December 3
(Loss of $0 to the Parking Fund).
WHEREAS, Snow Magic provides an opportunity to draw residents and visitors to
the Downtown and supports local businesses during the holiday shopping season.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,
Iowa, that suspension of parking regulations and enforcement of 4 metered parking
spaces for the Snow Magic kick off celebration to be held on Thursday, December 3,
2026, is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 13th day of January, 2026.
