RESOLUTION CERTIFYING THE CITY OF AMES
FFY 2027 IOWA CLEAN AIR ATTAINMENT PROGRAM APPLICATION
FOR THE AMES AREA METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATION
WHEREAS, the Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization was officially
designated as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) of the Ames urbanized
area by the Governor of Iowa in March 2003; and,
WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) solicits annual
statewide applications for its Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program (ICAAP) for
transportation projects that aim to reduce emissions and help meet the requirements of
the Clean Air Act; and,
WHEREAS, the Iowa DOT requires MPOs to review all ICAAP applications for
projects within their planning area boundary and consider certifying that those projects
conform with the MPO’s transportation planning process; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Ames is submitting a federal fiscal year (FFY) 2027
ICAAP project application to the Iowa DOT for the fifth and final phase of its traffic fiber
network; and,
WHEREAS, the project shown is forecasted to greatly reduce traffic congestion
and vehicle emissions along several major corridors in Ames and is already
programmed in the MPO’s 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan and FFY 2026 -2029
Transportation Improvement Program as a FFY 2027 project with $940,000 in Carbon
Reduction Program funding awarded and allocated.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Ames Area Metropolitan
Planning Organization hereby certifies that the City of Ames Phase 5 Traffic Fiber
Network FFY 2027 ICAAP Application confirms with the Ames Area Metropolitan
Planning Organization’s transportation planning process.
