HomeMy WebLinkAboutA001 - Resolution approving waiver of parking meter fees on the 2500 blocks of Chamberlain Street and Hunt Street and in Campustown Lot T on August 29-30, September 5-6, and September 26-27, 2025ITEM#:1 DATE:08-19-25 DEPT:ADMIN SUBJECT:REQUESTSFORFREEMETEREDPARKINGINCAMPUSTOWN    COUNCILACTIONFORM  BACKGROUND: OnJuly22,2025,theCityCouncilreferredtoafutureagendaarequestfromAnneTaylor regardingparkinginCampustown.Thisconstructionseason,the200blockofWelchAvenue hasbeenclosedtofacilitatereplacementofutilitiesandtheroadwaysurface.Itwasoriginally anticipatedthatthisprojectwouldbecompletedbyearlyAugust.However,persistentrainy weatherhasdelayedtheopeningoftheroaduntilsometimeinSeptember.  TherequestfromMs.Tayloristowaivemeteredparkingfeesattheparkingmetersonthe 2500blockofChamberlainStreet,the2500blockofHuntStreet,andinCampustownLotTon threeFriday/SaturdayperiodsearlyinthefallISUsemester:August29-30,September5-6, andSeptember26-27.  Therequestinvolves48totalmeteredparkingspaces.TheestimatedlosstotheParkingFund is$2,970.TheCityCouncil'spolicyregardingrequeststowaivemeteredparkinginanarea thatislessthandistrict-wideistoconsidersuchrequestsonacase-by-casebasis. ALTERNATIVES: 1.Approvetherequesttowaiveparkingmeterfees. 2.Donotapprovetherequest. 3.Referthisitembacktostaffforfurtherinformation. CITYMANAGER'SRECOMMENDEDACTION: Thereconstructionofthe200blockofWelchAvenuehasencountereddelaysdueto excessivewetweather.TheprojectwillnowcontinueintotheISUsemesterandthe firstfewISUhomefootballgamedays.Therequesttoprovidefreeparkingisintended toassisttheaffectedCampustownbusinessesinmakingiteasiertoencourage customerstopatronizethispartofthecommunityduringtheconstruction.Itistherefore therecommendationoftheCityManagerthattheCityCouncilapproveAlternativeNo.1,as describedabove.
