OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA NOVEMBER 6, 1990
The Ames City Council met in special session at 11:00 a.m. on November 6, 1990, in Conference
Room #235 in the Ames City Hall, pursuant to law with Mayor Curtis presiding and the following
members present: Brown, Campbell, Hertz, Hoffman, Parks, and Wirth.
WORKSHOP ON PRIORITIZING MAJOR PROJECTS: The Council discussed various
aspects of the Ames Plan.
Moved by Brown, seconded by Parks, to accept the concept and to continue the process of the
Ames Plan.
Vote on Motion: 6-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
Moved by Parks, seconded by Hoffman, to declare work on the Downtown and Campustown
Villages as the top priority in the Ames Plan.
Dave Hauser, Ames Chamber of Commerce, updated the Council on the Chamber's
position on the proposed Central Park at this time.
Vote on Motion: 6-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
The Council discussed each of the following major projects after being briefed on each by City
Manager Schainker and Assistant City Manager Kindred:
1. Affordable Housing
2. Ames Plan
3. Bike Paths
4. Disposal of City Property (Depot and Public Safety Building)
5. Hallett's Quarry
6. Highway 69 Improvements
7. Parking Facilities (Downtown and Campustown)
8. Quality of Life Bond Issue
9. Sidewalks
Mayor Curtis, Mr. Schainker and Mr. Kindred then led the Council Members in a prioritizing
exercise to determine which of these major projects should be concentrated on by City Staff
during the next year. Construction of a parking facility in Campustown and redevelopment of
the Depot and accompanying parking area were determined to be the top priorities of the
Council.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
