HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Special Meeting of the Ames City Council 04/27/1990MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL AMES, IOWA APRIL 27, 1990 The Ames City Council met in special session at 8:00 a.m. on April 27, 1990, in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Pro Tem Parks presiding and the following members present: Brown, Hertz, Hoffman, and Wirth. Mayor Curtis and Council Member Campbell were absent. REVISION TO RULES OF WATER AND POLLUTION CONTROL DEPARTMENT: Paul Wiegand, Director of Public Works, explained the proposed changes to the rules of the Water and Pollution Control Department dealing with the substitution of SDR 35 PVC pipes for SDR 21 plastic pipes in the requirements included in "Section 6 - Storm Sewer Service Line". He stated that if the change is implemented, since more thorough inspections will be required, an additional $20 per hour inspection fee should be charged, unless a registered engineer licensed in Iowa is present to do the inspection on behalf of the contractor. City Manager Schainker stated that this suggested change to the rules is being recommended by Staff at the suggestion of two plumbers and that a general meeting with plumbers was not held. Moved by Brown, seconded by Wirth, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 90-137 amending the rules of the Water and Pollution Control Department to require SDR 35 PVC rather than SDR 21 plastic in "Section 6 - Storm Sewer Service Line" and to include an additional $20.00 per hour fee for PVC installation inspection, except when a registered engineer licensed in Iowa is present to do the inspection on behalf of the contractor. Roll Call Vote 5-0. Resolution declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor, and hereby made a portion of these minutes. AGREEMENT WITH ISU FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT COOPERATION: Chief Ballantine explained the proposed agreement with the ISU Department of Public Safety. Moved by Brown, seconded by Wirth, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 90-138 approving a cooperative agreement between the Ames Police Department and ISU's Department of Public Safety for joint exercise of law enforcement services. Roll Call Vote 5-0. Resolution declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor, and hereby made a portion of these minutes. APPLICATION FOR FUNDS FROM THE DRUG CONTROL AND SYSTEM IMPROVEMENT GRANT: Chief Ballantine explained the reason for applying for these funds and stated that the approval of any or all of the requested money would assist the police department in narcotics investigations. He pointed out that the City's required match for the purchase of equipment, manpower, etc. would come from forfeiture funds. Moved by Brown, seconded by Hertz, to approve the application for funds from the Drug Control and System Improvement Grant by the Ames Police Department. Vote on Motion 5-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. COMMENTS: There were no comments.
