OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA MARCH 26, 1990
The Ames City Council met in special session at 8:05 a.m. on March 26, 1990, in the City Council
Chambers of the City Administration Building, 621 Main Street, pursuant to law with Mayor Larry
Curtis presiding and the following members present: Campbell, Hertz, Parks, & Wirth.
REQUEST FROM IOWA SPECIAL OLYMPICS: Moved by Parks, seconded by Campbell, to
reconsider the request from Iowa Special Olympics regarding an exception to the utility bill
insert policy, which was denied at the City Council meeting on March 20, 1990.
Vote on Motion: 3-1. Voting Aye: Campbell, Parks, and Wirth. Voting Nay: Hertz. Motion
declared carried.
Moved by Campbell, seconded by Parks, to grant the request from Iowa Special Olympics for
an exception to the utility bill insert policy, thus allowing them to advertise their Las Vegas
Extravaganza fund raiser in the City utility bills.
Council Members Campbell and Parks commented that they supported this request because the
Council approved the same request last year and because the inserts had already been printed.
Council Member Hertz expressed her opposition to the request particularly because the ticket
price is listed on the insert. Council Member Wirth stressed that this type of exception would
never be approved again by the Council.
Vote on Motion: 3-1. Voting Aye: Campbell, Parks, and Wirth. Voting Nay: Hertz. Motion
declared carried.
COMMENTS: There were no comments.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 a.m.
