HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Joint Meeting of the Ames City Council and Hospital Board 02/26/1990MINUTES OF THE JOINT MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL AND HOSPITAL BOARD AMES, IOWA FEBRUARY 26, 1990 The Ames City Council met jointly with the Mary Greeley Medical Center Board of Trustees at 7:30 p.m. on February 26, 1990, in the Council Chambers of the City Administration Building, 621 Main Street, pursuant to law with Mayor Curtis presiding and the following Council Members present: Brown, Hertz, Hoffman, & Wirth. Council Members Campbell and Parks arrived late. The following Hospital Board Members were present: Clem, Dasher, Flynn, and Patterson. Board Chairman Halliburton was absent. REVIEW OF HOSPITAL SITE PLAN, H-M ZONE, AND PARKING ISSUES: Jeffrey Stevenson, President of Mary Greeley Medical Center, reviewed the site plan for the hospital and detailed which departments will need more space in the future. Council Members Campbell and Parks arrived at 7:45 p.m. Mr. Stevenson suggested that the hospital will be considering a vertical structure as they build on in the future. Concerning additional parking area, he indicated that they would like to gradually purchase the remaining residential properties in the two blocks south of the hospital, remove the structures, and pave those areas for parking. He stated that a parking ramp would eventually be built to the west of the hospital if it became necessary. The Council and Hospital Board discussed the problems associated with creating more surface parking. Kay Wall, 1004 Kellogg, appeared in support of a parking ramp for the hospital and said that she believed that older people would favor a ramp. Council Member Brown requested more specific information on how the hospital arrived at these recommendations concerning additional building space and parking space. COMMENTS: There were no comments.
