HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Special Meeting of the Ames City Council 05/21/1991MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL AMES, IOWA MAY 21, 1991 The Ames City Council met in special session at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 1991, in Conference Room No. 235 of the City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Larry Curtis presiding and the following members present: Brown, Campbell, Hertz, Hoffman, and Wirth. Council Member Parks was absent. CONFERENCE BOARD MEETING: Moved by Hoffman, seconded by Brown, to set May 28, 1991, at 7:00 p.m. as the date and time for a special Conference Board Meeting. Vote on Motion: 5-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. UNITED BANK AND TRUST RENAMING CEREMONY: Moved by Hoffman, seconded by Brown, to approve a request from United Bank and Trust for closing Burnett Avenue between 5th Street and Main and the alley between Burnett and Kellogg on June 3, 1991 between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. for a renaming ceremony subject to the following stipulations: 1. Maintain all street closure barricades. 2. Obtain concurrence for the closure from all affected businesses adjacent to the alley and on Burnett Avenue. 3. Rent all parking meters along Burnett Avenue from Main Street to 5th Street for the duration of the ceremony. 4. Demonstrate insurance capability holding the City harmless from claims and damages of any kind caused by the skydiving operation, and naming the City as an additional insured. Vote on Motion: 5-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. WORK SESSION WITH PUBLIC WORKS AND PLANNING AND HOUSING DEPARTMENTS: Scott Logan, Traffic Engineer, discussed upcoming traffic engineering projects with the Council. It was the general consensus that his plans were on the correct path and corresponded with the Council's goals. Their only request for an alteration of his plans was to include the intersection of Wheeler and Grand in the study for signalization priorities. Brian O'Connell, Director of Planning and Housing, and Ray Anderson, City Planner, presented the program activities in the long range work program for the Planning and Housing Department. The Council again arrived at a consensus that the plan as presented was acceptable with the exception of the Village Planning Framework. It was decided that the department should not progress any further on that project. COMMENTS: Council Member Hoffman asked Staff to check into an erosion problem on the Zumwalt path.
