OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA JANUARY 31, 1991
The Ames City Council met in special session with Iowa State University officials at 7:00 a.m. on
January 31, 1991, in Conference Room #235 in the City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law.
Mayor Curtis presided at the meeting and the following Council Members were present: Brown,
Campbell, Hertz, and Hoffman. Council Members Parks and Wirth were absent. Also, in
attendance from Iowa State University were Interim President Milton Glick, Vice President Warren
Madden, Vice President Tom Thielen, Vice President Charles McCandless, and Reid Crawford,
Executive Assistant to the President.
Discussion centered on the Campustown/Campus Planning Study, Ames Plan Coordination, and
future plans for Iowa State University. Mr. Madden briefed the group on the progress of the
University's Campus Planning Study with Sasaki & Associates. Dr. Glick explained the University's
interest in seeing Campustown revitalized and stated that they are willing to consider moving certain
university enterprises to Campustown. Dr. Thielen informed the group of the University's
enrollment projections. Mayor Curtis led a discussion on how the City may help the University in
recruiting students and faculty. Both City and University officials affirmed their interest in a tree
planting project along Lincoln Way between Beach and Elwood.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
