OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA APRIL 1, 1994
The Ames City Council met in special session at 12:00 p.m. on Friday April 1, 1994, in Conference
Room 235 in the City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Pro Tem Parks presiding
and the following Council members present: Brown, Campbell, Hoffman, and Wirth. Council
Member Tedesco was absent.
REQUEST FROM HOWE FAMILY: Moved by Campbell, seconded by Wirth, to adopt
RESOLUTION NO. 94-116 approving a request to extend the deadline to October 1, 1994, in
order to remove a building from property located at 811 South Duff Avenue and approving the
reissuance of a Letter of Credit on behalf of Kenneth and Marjory Howe in the amount of
$12,500.00, which will be used as security to remove the existing building no later than October
1, 1994.
It was agreed to approve the extension of time to construct a new building and demolish the
existing building at 811 South Duff Avenue. Staff had expressed concern about the placement
of vehicle parts, metal parts, and other materials on the property. The materials are in the Squaw
Creek floodway, which is a violation of the City's Flood Plain regulations. These materials also
make the property unsightly. The Council reviewed the enforcement schedule of the materials
in the floodway and agreed that a Special Use Permit should be used to resolve the issue rather
than immediately filing charges against the property owners.
Roll Call Vote: 4-0. Resolution declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor, and
hereby made a portion of these minutes.
OTHER BUSINESS: The Council discussed other City issues.
COMMENTS: There were no comments.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
