OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA MAY 22, 1996
The Ames City Council met in joint session with the Hospital Board of Trustees at 5:30 p.m. in the
Board Room at Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC), 1111 Duff Avenue. Those in attendance
from the City of Ames were Council Members Ann Campbell, Judie Hoffman, John Parks, Herman
Quirmbach, Ted Tedesco, and Sharon Wirth. Board of Trustees Members Karl Friederich, Betty
Jo Harker, Pat Brown, Sarah Buck, and Judy Clem were in attendance as well as Administrative
Staff members Kim Russel, Chief Executive Officer, Sue Ellen Wilcox, Director of Public and
Community Relations, Ann Madden Rice, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Arlene Roth,
Publications Coordinator, Neal Loes, Vice President, Jerry Sloan, Vice President, and Linda Muston,
Vice President of Community Services. Mayor Larry Curtis arrived late.
PRESENTATION OF STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS: Hospital Board Chairman
Friederich welcomed those in attendance. He commended his fellow Trustees for all their hard
work and efforts put forth to put Mary Greeley Medical Center in a favorable position for health
care services. Chairman Friederich introduced Chief Executive Officer Russel, who, in turn,
presented her staff.
At this time, Ms. Russel presented a slide overview regarding the hospital’s strategic planning
process as well as a general MGMC update. A slide presentation was given showing the various
MGMC clinics, treatment centers, and office buildings of satellite campuses.
Vice President Sloan updated those in attendance on the expansion efforts now being completed
as well as what will be developed in the future. Slides were shown on the street widening
construction, the west addition expansion, and the new parking ramp. He also explained what
future developments will occur at the hospital.
After brief discussions regarding the current and future expansion projects and the time frames
involved with those efforts, Chief Executive Officer Russel thanked everyone for attending, and
stated she would like to see the City Council and the Hospital Board of Trustees meet on a more
regular occasion.
The meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
