HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Special Meeting of the Ames City Council 05/13/1996OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL AMES, IOWA MAY 13, 1996 The Ames City Council met with members of the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Planning Policy Committee on the 13th day of May, 1996 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Ames City Hall, 515 Clark, pursuant to law with Mayor Larry R. Curtis presiding and the following Council Members present: Campbell, Hoffman, Parks, Quirmbach, Tedesco, and Wirth. Present from the Planning and Zoning Commission were Chuck DeKovic, Riad Mahayni, and Paula Weidner. Present from the Planning Policy Committee were Les Beck, Mary Atherly, Ken Augustine, Mary Terpstra, Sherry Dragula, Bob Shirk, Ralph Farrar, Keith Denner, Phil Poorman, Sandra McJimsey, and Warren Madden. Al Raby, Planning Consultant from the RM Plan Group of Nashville, Tennessee, reviewed the document entitled "Draft -- Land Use Policy Plan, Ames, Iowa." The Council Members, Commission Members, and Committee Members asked questions of Mr. Raby and Planning and Housing Director Brian O'Connell concerning the proposed Plan. RECESS: Mayor Curtis called a recess at 6:40 p.m. RECONVENE: The Special Meeting reconvened at 6:47 p.m. Mayor Curtis left the meeting, and Coun. Parks assumed the role of Mayor Pro Tem. Discussion regarding the draft Plan continued. Paul Peiffer, 509 Ash Avenue, noted he was a member of the Ames Zoning Code Review Committee. He said he wished to point out that the yellow-colored portion on the Future Land Use map as contained in the draft document designated Medium-Density Residential, not Low-Density Residential, land. Motion by Campbell, Second by Wirth, to endorse the general parameters of the Draft Plan as presented. Vote on Motion: 4-2. Voting Aye: Campbell, Hoffman, Parks, Wirth. Voting Nay: Quirmbach, Tedesco. Motion declared carried 4-2. Motion by Wirth, Second by Quirmbach, that Council Members review document entitled "Land Use Policy Plan Implementation Techniques," highlighting areas of concern, and submit lists of those areas to Staff; that members of Planning & Zoning Commission and Planning Policy Committee let Council Members know their areas of concern for inclusion on these lists; and that Staff then schedule a worksession with the City Council to address the areas of concern and provide maps of proposed Plan, existing zoning, etc. for comparison. Vote on Motion: 6-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. No further action was taken.
