OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AND THE AMES CODE REVIEW COMMITTEE
AMES, IOWA FEBRUARY 22, 1996
The Ames City Council met with members of the Ames Code Review Committee on the 22nd day
of February, 1996 at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 515 Clark, pursuant to law with Mayor
Larry R. Curtis presiding and the following Council Members present: Campbell, Parks,
Quirmbach, Tedesco, and Wirth. Coun. Hoffman arrived late.
Present from the Ames Code Review Committee were Chair Cathy Brown, Joe Lynch, Paul Peiffer,
Dave Benson, Rob Weidner, Paul Popelka, Frank Schill, Norm Rudi, Dan Celania, and Sandra
McJimsey.
Coun. Hoffman arrived at 5:35 p.m.
Planning and Housing Director Brian O'Connell referred to his memo of February 14, 1996 to the
Mayor, Council, and Code Review Committee, which outlined how the Committee has been
reviewing the City's Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations in tandem with the work being
done on the City's Land Use Policy Plan update. He noted the work was being done with the
assistance of legal consultants Robinson & Cole. He said during the development of the revised
Zoning Ordinance, the Committee sought comments from the various groups to help identify Code
issues that need to be resolved with this rewrite. He explained how those comments were then
analyzed and grouped into categories which represented the major issues the Committee wished to
discuss with the Council this evening.
The Committee and the Council discussed the issues contained in Mr. O'Connell's memorandum.
No action was taken at this meeting.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 7:54 p.m.
