OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
CITY OF AMES, IOWA
SEPTEMBER 11, 1997
The Ames City Council met in Special Session on the 11th day of September, 1997, at 6:00 p.m. in
the City Council Chambers in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Pro Tem
John Parks presiding, and the following Council members present: Campbell, Hoffman, Parks,
Quirmbach, Tedesco, and Wirth.
CALL TO ORDER: 6:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT WITH BARILLA AMERICA, INC. : City
Manager Steve Schainker reviewed highlights of the proposed economic development agreement
with Barilla America, Inc. as contained in his memorandum dated September 10, 1997, to the Mayor
and City Council.
Motion by Tedesco, Second by Campbell, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 97-477 approving
Development Agreement with Barilla America, Inc.
Roll Call Vote: 6-0. Resolution declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor, and
hereby made a portion of these minutes.
COMMENTS AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS: Coun. Hoffman said she had enjoyed playing
on the City’s new disk golf course.
Coun. Wirth said the cement that extends to the curb from the west door of City Hall is uneven, and
could prove hazardous. She asked Staff to check to see what might be done to improve safety for
pedestrians.
Coun. Tedesco said now that the Barilla America site had been chosen on the east side of I-35, he
would encourage the Council to support getting together with Staff and officials from appropriate
agencies to talk about the corridor between Ames and Nevada becoming an industrial park in the
future. He said being proactive in discussions now might avoid potential conflicts in the future.
