HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Special Meeting of the Ames City Council 09/05/1997 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL CITY OF AMES, IOWA SEPTEMBER 5, 1997 The Ames City Council met in special session at 7:30 a.m. on the 5th day of September, 1997, in Conference Room 235 in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Larry R. Curtis presiding, and the following Council members present: Campbell, Parks, Quirmbach, Tedesco, and Wirth. Coun. Hoffman arrived at 7:35 a.m. CALL TO ORDER: 7:30 a.m. CONSENT AGENDA: Motion by Parks, Second by Tedesco, to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda: 1. RESOLUTION NO. 97-453 authorizing the Mayor to sign the Housing Assistance Payments and the Annual Contributions Contract with HUD for the City’s Section 8 Substantial Rehabilitation Program in the Sheldon Munn Apartments 2. RESOLUTION NO. 97-454 approving release of contract and lien for property located at 5441 Frost Drive in connection with the City’s Phase III Affordable Housing Program in the Bentwood Subdivision Roll Call Vote: 5-0. Resolutions declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor, and hereby made a portion of these minutes. WORKSESSION WITH ISU PRESIDENT MARTIN JISCHKE ON ISSUES RELATED TO VEISHEA: Iowa State University President Dr. Martin Jischke, Mayor Curtis, and City Council Members held a 1-hour discussion on how to curtail alcohol-related problems at VEISHEA. Dr. Jischke told the Council members he has put the responsibility on the ISU students to take a pledge to make VEISHEA alcohol-free, asking for the City’s support and continued cooperation, as well as urging the Council members to think about ways to help solve the problem of alcohol-abuse among ISU students.
