OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA MAY 19, 1997
The Ames City Council met in special workshop session with the Electric Utility Operations Review
and Advisory Board (EUORAB) at 9:00 a.m. on the 19th day of May, 1997, at the Parks and
Recreation Administrative Offices, 1500 Gateway Hills Park Drive, pursuant to law with Mayor
Larry R. Curtis presiding and the following Council members present: Campbell, Hoffman,
Quirmbach, Tedesco, and Wirth. EUORAB members present were John Lamont, Steve Ringlee,
Doug Klokow, and Richard Vaughn. City Staff members also in attendance were: Steve Schainker,
Bob Kindred, Sheila Lundt, Clare Bills, John Klaus, Merlin Hove, Gary Titus, Alice Carroll, and
Mike Wheelock. Council member John Parks and EUORAB member Al Joensen were absent.
Merlin Hove, Director of Electric, introduced Jeff Tarbert, Associate Executive Director of the
American Public Power Association. Mr. Tarbert conducted the electric utility workshop regarding
governing during a competitive transition. Topics of discussion were the new competitive
environment, how other communities are responding to competition, governance and competitive
challenges, and developing a competitive strategy.
No action was taken at this meeting.
COMMENTS: There were no comments.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 2:40 p.m.
