OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL
AMES, IOWA JULY 8, 1998
The Ames City Council met in special session at 5:02 p.m. on the 8th day of July, 1998, in the City
Council Chambers in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Ted Tedesco
presiding and the following Council members present: Campbell, Cross, Hoffman, Quirmbach, and
Wirth. Parks was excused.
NAMING OF BROOKSIDE PARK BASEBALL FIELD: Motion by Cross, Second by Wirth,
to name the baseball field at Brookside Park in honor of Ray Smalling.
Roll Call Vote: 5-0. Resolution declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor and hereby
made a portion of these minutes.
COMMENTS: Motion by Hoffman, Second by Campbell, to refer Riad Mahayni’s letter about
commercial development guidelines to staff.
Vote on Motion: 5-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
Motion by Hoffman, Second by Campbell, to refer to staff the request for an additional traffic
signal on East Thirteenth Street.
Vote on Motion: 5-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
Cross inquired as to whether or not property owners had been provided a work schedule for the
Fifth Street Improvement Project. City Manager Schainker replied that Ray Anderson from the
Department of Planning and Housing was working closely with them on the scene, going door-
to-door and handing out fliers.
Motion by Wirth, Second by Campbell, to refer to staff the letter from the Octagon and forward
a recommendation about the proposed 15-minute meter near the Octagon Shop as soon as
possible.
Vote on Motion: 5-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT: 5:05 p.m.
