HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Joint Meeting of the Ames City Council and Hospital Board of Trustees 06/18/2002MINUTES OF THE JOINT MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL AND HOSPITAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES AMES, IOWA JUNE 18, 2002 The Ames City Council and the Hospital Board of Trustees met in joint session at 12:08 p.m. on the 18th day of June, 2002, in the Mary Greeley Medical Center (MGMC) Board Room. Those in attendance from the City Council were Mayor Ted Tedesco and Council Members Steve Goodhue, Judie Hoffman, Herman Quirmbach, Daryle Vegge, and Sharon Wirth. Council Member Cross arrived at 12:15 p.m. Board of Trustees Members Sarah Buck, Karl Friederich, Mary Kitchell, and Emil Peterson were present. Sarah Buck and Mayor Tedesco welcomed the members of the City Council, the Hospital Board of Trustees, and administrative staff members from both entities. Ms. Buck stated that the Mary Greeley Medical Center staff and Board of Trustees are committed to keeping up-to-date on health care issues and providing high-quality cost-effective care to the people they serve. She named specific issues that the Board is facing on a daily basis, specifically identifying concerns about Medicare reimbursement and work force issues. Kim Russel, MGMC Chief Executive Officer, updated the City Council on the status of the construction of the north addition to the hospital, including the William R. Bliss Cancer Center, which is to be completed by Summer 2003. She also enlightened the City Council on the hospital’s financial assistance programs, “Homeward,” and “First Nurse.” Mary Kitchell spoke about the Ames Free Medical Clinic. She thanked the Hospital Board of Trustees and the area medical staff who generously donate resources and time to the Clinic. Neal Loes, Vice-President of MGMC, facilitated a tour of the newly remodeled First Nurse and Rehabilitation Units.
