Unanimous. a. Present: Rowland, Rogowski, Stromberg-Murphy, Hauswirth, Kedrowski, Hoff-Grambau, Zwank, Lindsley, Schmidt, Merchant, Kumar III. Commission Committee a. Outreach i. Chair’s Report/Comments a. Subcommittees should continue with quarterly meetings VI. City of Ames Liaison Report a. All AAOSE pieces have been installed downtown i. Blues by Tim Adams is now on a timer and will be illuminated at night b. The call for artists for the AMES CyRide project has not yet gone out i. It will go before city council at their next meeting ii. Work is still being done on easements VII. Old Business a. None VIII. New Business a. Discussion of calendar project i. Kumar asked what the impact of holding the calendar project is versus giving a donation to an art organization 1. Merchant expressed that this was one way the commission engages with the community ii. Rogowski asked if the commission would like to donate the proceeds of the calendar to the Octagon or somewhere else 1. Philips offered to look into organizations that receive art grant funding 2. Lindsley suggested donating to the Ames Historical Museum 3. Kumar discussed giving calendars to multiple locations on Main Street 4. Kedrowski suggested donating to the Ames Public Library iii. Theme 1. Kedrowski suggested something along the lines of Americana, patriotism, or America 250 for the semiquincecentennial anniversary of the country a. Alternative: What does Americana look like to you? 2. Zwank asked the Octagon for theme suggestions and they suggested Ames architecture a. Alternative: Celebrate Ames! 3. Roll call vote for the theme: a. Schmidt: Celebrate Ames b. Rowland: Celebrate Ames! c. Kedrowski: Celebrate Ames! d. Merchant: Celebrate Ames! e. Hoff-Grambau: Celebrate Ames! f. Lindsley: Celebrate Ames! g. Kumar: Celebrate Ames! h. Hauswirth: Celebrate Ames! i. Stromberg-Murphy: Celebrate Ames! j. Rogowski: Celebrate Ames! k. Zwank: Celebrate Ames! l. Motion to affirm the vote to use Celebrate Ames as this year’s calendar project and to move forward with a call for artists based on last year’s with an updated timeline that is appropriate for this year by Hauswirth/Kedrowski. iv. Timeline 1. Call to artists should go out ASAP with submissions being due by July 2. Art selections should go to the printer by the beginning of October v. Kedrowski, Stromberg-Murphy, Merchant have offered to work on this subcommittee with Stomberg-Murphy chairing vi. Hauswirth suggested creating a flyer to display the calendar at the commission’s events b. Subcommittee signup passed around at meeting. Zwank will follow up through email. IX. For the Good of the Order a. Kedrowski had a conversation with a member of the Human Relations Commission about working together along with Cyclone Civics at ISU to engage ISU students in joining city boards and commissions i. Hauswirth mentioned that he participated in a lunch and learn at ISU last year discussing students joining city boards and commissions ii. Stromberg-Murphy suggested the PR subcommittee reach out to the Iowa State Daily about an article iii. Rogowski suggested reaching out to the Off-Campus Student Support Program b. Kumar asked if there had been a response from Parks and Rec about the Ames Lit Trails. i. Philips will follow up c. Rowland asked for an update about the Trolls i. Hauswirth relayed our support to the Octagon, but there are no updates ii. Hoff-Grambau visited some trolls in Minnesota. They have been turned into a scavenger hunt, and she states that it was a very fun experience that attracted a lot of tourists. d. Merchant asked if there would be room for a mural in the new aquatic center i. Philips is not sure ii. The aquatic center is expected to be completed by January e. Zwank will be sending out a signup for the Art Walk happening on June 5th X. Motion to Adjourn at 1838 by Hauswirth/Hoff-Grambau. Unanimous. Submitted by Julieanne Rogowski, Secretary
