HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Special Meeting of the Ames City Council 07/15/2011MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE AMES CITY COUNCIL AMES, IOWA JULY 15, 2011 The Ames City Council met in special session at 4:38 p.m. on the 15th day of July, 2011, in the City Council Chambers in City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, pursuant to law with Mayor Campbell presiding. Council Member Orazem was present. Since it was impractical for all Council members to attend in person, Council Members Davis, Goodman, and Mahayni were brought in telephonically. Council Members Larson and Wacha and ex officio Finseth were absent. DELAY IN BUILDING PERMIT FEE INCREASE: City Manager Schainker advised that at budget time, the City Council approved a 4% increase in Building Permit Fees to be effective on July 1, 2011. The Ames Home Builders Association had volunteered to provide notice of the pending fee increase in its June newsletter. However, the HBA decided not to send out a June newsletter; thus, the notification about the fee increase was not made. Since contractors often provide written bids months in advance, staff believed that it was imperative that they receive advance notice of the fee increase. Therefore, it was the City Manager's recommendation that the fee increase be postponed for 60 days; making the effective date of said increase September 1, 2011. If approved, Inspections would then provide notice via email and or in writing. Moved by Davis, seconded by Mahayni, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 11-352 authorizing a delay in implementation of the Building Permit Fee increase until September 1, 2011 Roll Call Vote: 4-0. Resolution declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor, and hereby made a portion of these Minutes. ADJOURNMENT: Moved by Davis to adjourn the meeting at 4:40 p.m. ___________________________________ ____________________________________ Diane R. Voss, City Clerk Ann H. Campbell, Mayor
