The trail is being replaced due to sloughing and breaking of the edges, tree roots growing into the asphalt, excessive cracking, settling of the path, drainage issues in areas, and the width not meeting the needs of users; and, WHEREAS, the City Council awarded a contract to WHKS to develop plans and specifications for the project. WHKS explored two replacement options for this project: 1) Close the entire trail during construction, and 2) Close the trail in phases during construction; and, WHEREAS, closing the entire trail during construction has been estimated to be the most cost-effective option while having the shortest overall project completion time. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that directing staff to bid the Ada Hayden Heritage Park Trail Replacement Project to include the closing of the entire trail during construction is hereby approved. ADOPTED THIS 15th day of April, 2025. _________________________________ ___________________________________ Renee Hall, City Clerk John A.
