MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
AMES, IOWA JULY 25, 2024
The Regular Meeting of the Ames Civil Service Commission met in regular session in the Council Chambers
of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, with Commission Members, Harold Pike and Larry Conley present. Kim
Linduska and Bethany Ballou, HR Director were brought in telephonically. Chairperson Kim Linduska
called the meeting to order at 8:18 AM on July 25, 2024. Also in attendance was Commission Clerk, Vicki
Hillock..
APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF JUNE 27, 2024: Moved by Pike, seconded by Conley, to approve the
Minutes of the June 27, 2024, Regular Service Commission meeting. Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared
carried unanimously.
CERTIFICATION OF ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Conley, seconded by Pike, to certify
the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Entry-Level Applicants:

MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE
AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
AMES, IOWA SEPTEMBER 13, 2024
The Special Meeting of the Ames Civil Service Commission met in special session in Conference Room
235 of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, with Commission Members, Kim Linduska, Harold Pike and Larry
Conley present. Chairperson Kim Linduska called the meeting to order at 1:58 PM on September 13, 2024.
Also in attendance was Erin Clanton, Brick Gentry P.C., Legal Counsel for Commission Members, Renee
Hall, City Clerk and Commission Clerk, Vicki Hillock.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA OF SEPTEMBER 13, 2024: Moved by Pike, seconded by Conley, to
approve the Agenda of the September 13, 2024, Special Service Commission meeting. Vote on Motion: 3-
0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
RECEIVE AND FILE SPECIFICATIONS OF CHARGES IN THE MATTER OF SARAH
MCCLURE APPEAL: Moved by Conley, seconded by Pike, to receive and file specification of charges in
the Matter of Sarah McClure Appeal.
INTRODUCTION OF COMMISSION LEGAL COUNSEL: Erin Clanton was introduced as outside
legal counsel for the commission members in the Matter of Sarah McClure Appeal. Clanton noted that Amy
Reasner, Lynch Dallas, P.C., will be outside counsel representing the City of Ames. Molly Hamilton,
Hamilton Law Firm., P.C., presenting former employee McClure.
NOTICE OF HEARING: Discussion was presented for the setting of hearing dates for the Matter of Sarah
McClure Appeal. Counsel Clanton presented commission with requested dates of October 21st and 22nd for
the appeal hearing confirmed by both Legal Counsels for the City of Ames and former employee McClure.
Chairperson Linduska had limited time available those two days and Conley stated he is unavailable the
entire month of October. Commission member Conley motioned to set the hearing for the Matter of Sarah
McClure Appeal and shall be held pursuant to the provisions of Iowa Code Chapter 400, for October 3, 2024,
at 9:00am in Council Chambers of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, unless legal counsel for both parties
confirms hearing dates for the matter of Sarah McClure Appeal for November 13th and 14th of 2024,
commencing at 9:00am. Seconded by Pike. Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.
DISCUSSION: Counsel Clanton presented commission with the hearing process, commission member roles
and role of legal counsel for the commission as outlined in the Civil Service Commission Policies and
Procedures as set out by Iowa Code Chapter 17A.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 2:38 PM.

NOTICE OF HEARING
Upon Joint Motion to Reset Hearing Date, the Ames Civil Service Commission hereby sets
the hearing date on the following dates and times:
November 13, 2024—beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
November 14, 2024—beginning at 9:00 a.m. until hearing is complete.
The hearing shall be conducted at the Ames Council Chambers, 515 Clark Avenue, Ames,
Iowa 50010, 2nd Floor.
This hearing is being held pursuant to the provisions of Iowa Code Chapter 400, including
§400.18 regarding the removal, discharge, demotion or suspension of an employee. A copy of the
written specifications of charges is attached hereto.
