COMMENTS: ADJOURNMENT: MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AMES, IOWA JULY 20, 2023 The Regular Meeting of the Ames Civil Service Commission was called to order by Chairperson Kim Linduska at 8:13 AM on JULY 20, 2023. As it was impractical for the Commission members to attend in person, Commission Chairperson Kim Linduska and Commission Membrs Mike Crum and Harold Pike were brought in telephonically. Also in attendance was Commission Clerk, Vicki Hillock. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF June 22, 2023: Moved by Pike, seconded by Crum, to approve the Minutes of the June 22, 2023, Regular Service Commission meeting. CERTIFICATION OF ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Linduska, seconded by Crum, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Entry-Level Applicants: Police Records Clerk Carla Ruiz 85 Miranda Whitley 70 Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. REQUEST TO REMOVE NAMES AND EXHAUST FROM PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER LIST: Moved by Crum, seconded by Pike to remove names and exhaust Public Safety Dispatcher entry-level certified list. Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. COMMENTS: The next Regular Meeting and training session will be held in-person on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 8:15am. Kendra Hitzemann – Candidate requested their name be removed from the Civil Service list via email. Section 4.5 (Removal of Names from Certified Lists) of the Civil Service commission Policies and Procedures states: “A person appearing on a certified list for original appointment shall have their name removed from the list by the Commission… In addition, an individual may be removed and decertified if the person is subsequently found unqualified for any of the following reasons: 4. The candidate has reference, credit and/or background check results that do not provide indicators of future success in the position...” Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission remove the above name from the Civil Service list. Carla Ruiz– Candidate declined offer of employment via email. Miranda Whitley - Candidate declined offer of employment via email. Section 4.5 (Removal of Names from Certified Lists) of the Civil Service commission Policies and Procedures states: “A person appearing on a certified list for original appointment shall have their name removed from the list by the Commission whenever that person has… refused an interview or an offer of appointment,…” Section 4.2 (Duration of Entry Level Eligibility Lists) of the Civil Service Commission Policies and Procedures states: “When a list has diminished to three or fewer candidates, the Commission may declare the list exhausted.” Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission remove the above name s from the Civil Service list and exhaust this current list so we may continue with an open recruitment. Jacob Haddican – requested to be removed from Civil Service List. Section 4.5 (Removal of Names from Certified Lists) of the Civil Service commission Policies and Procedures states: “ A person appearing on a certified list for original appointment shall have their name removed from the list by the Commission whenever that person has requested that their name be removed, or refuses an interview or an offer of appointment, or requests not to be considered for an available vacancy, or fails to respond to a written notice...” The one person remains on the Maintenance Worker - Parks and Recreation sub- list. Section 4.2 (Duration of Entry Level Eligibility Lists) of the Civil Service Commission Policies and Procedures states: “When a list has diminished to three or fewer candidates, the Commission may declare the list exhausted.” Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission remove the above name from the Civil Service list and exhaust this current list so we may continue with an open recruitment.
