MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE AMES CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION AMES, IOWA APRIL 27, 2023 The Regular Meeting of the Ames Civil Service Commission was called to order by Chairperson Mike Crum at 8:15 AM on APRIL 27, 2023. As it was impractical for the Commission members to attend in person, Commission Chairperson Mike Crum, Commission Members Harold Pike and Kim Linduska were brought in telephonically. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MARCH 23, 2023: Moved by Pike, seconded by Linduska, to approve the Minutes of the March 23, 2023, Regular Service Commission meeting. Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. CERTIFICATION OF ENTRY-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Crum, seconded by Pike, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Entry-Level Applicants: Environmental Engineer I Daria Dilparic 83 Mitchell VanderVeen 71 Police Officer Garrett Daughton 76 Carlos Jimenez-Soriano 75 Jordan Babcock 74 Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. CERTIFICATION OF PROMOTIONAL-LEVEL APPLICANTS: Moved by Linduska, seconded by Crum, to certify the following individuals to the Ames City Council as Promotional-Level Applicants: Fire Lieutenant Chad Bundy 81* Pat Murphy 81 Matthew Thompson 79* Jason Vennard 78* Wes Hubbard 69 TJ Trau 69 Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously. REQUEST TO EXHAUST PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER LIST: Moved by Crum, seconded by Pike to exhaust the Public Safety Dispatcher entry-level certified list. Vote on Motion: 3-0. Motion declared carried unanimously.

On the agenda for the May 25, 2023, Civil Service Commission meeting, the
Commission will discuss a request to remove names from the Police Officer
classification lists, which were certified on March 23 and April 27, 2023.
Matthew Eagleton – Candidate withdrew from eligible list due to having another
position.
Garrett Daughton - Candidate withdrew from eligible list in writing.
Section 4.5 (Removal of Names from Certified Lists) of the Civil Service
commission Policies and Procedures states: “ A person appearing on a certified
list for original appointment shall have their name removed from the list by the
Commission whenever that person has requested that their name be removed...”
The two people remaining on the Police Officer list are currently in process with a
contingent offer of employment.
Section 4.2 (Duration of Entry Level Eligibility Lists) of the Civil Service
Commission Policies and Procedures states: “When a list has diminished to three
or fewer candidates, the Commission may declare the list exhausted.”
Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission remove the above names from
the Civil Service list and exhaust this current list so we may continue with an open
recruitment.

On the agenda for the May 25, 2023, Civil Service Commission meeting, the
Commission will discuss a request to remove a name from the Maintenance
Worker classification, Utility Maintenance sub-list, which was certified on February
23, 2023.
Jacob Stremel – Did not accept offer of employment.
Section 4.5 (Removal of Names from Certified Lists) of the Civil Service
commission Policies and Procedures states: “ A person appearing on a certified
list for original appointment shall have their name removed from the list by the
Commission whenever that person has requested that their name be removed, or
refuses an interview or an offer of appointment, or requests not to be considered
for an available vacancy, or fails to respond to a written notice…. In addition, an
individual may be removed and decertified if the person is subsequently found
unqualified for any of the following reasons: … 4. The candidate has reference,
credit and/or background check results that do not provide indicators of future
success in the position...”
Staff requests that the Civil Service Commission remove the above name from the
Civil Service list.
