HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Authorizing Public Art Commission to Enter Agreements with Artists for 2025/26 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition SelectionsRESOLUTION NO. 24-653 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PUBLIC ART COMMISSION TO ENTER INTO AGREEMENTS WITH ARTISTS FOR THE 2025/26 AMES ANNUAL OUTDOOR SCULPTURE EXHIBITION SELECTIONS FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition (AAOSE), the longest running program for the Public Arts Commission (PAC), will celebrate its 29th annual downtown exhibition in 2025; and, WHEREAS, through this program, artists submit sculptural entries to be displayed in Downtown Ames from May 2025 through April 2026. At the conclusion of the display, sculptures are available for purchase by private individuals or by PAC through the Neighborhood Art Program; and, WHEREAS, this year, 47 AAOSE entries were received from 18 artists and were evaluated by a jury of Ames residents who then made their recommendations to PAC. The jurors selected ten sculptures to be displayed and also identified two alternates in case selected sculpture(s) would become unavailable; and, WHEREAS, PAC approved the recommendations and alternates at the regular meeting on December 3, 2024; and, WHEREAS, specific sculptures selected for display are as follows: 1. Blues by Tim Adams 2. Hydraulic Jump 1 by Kristin Garnant 3. Go Ask Alice by Anna Modeland 4. Gusset Pump by Matt Moyer 5. Guardian by Jim and Ryan Pedersen 6. Lifted by Nathan Pierce 7. Figure Taking Flight by Albert Rhea 8. A Big Hello by Craig Snyder 9. TipSee by Craig Snyder 10. Swirling Fire/Tree Robert Sunderman WHEREAS, installation of the exhibit will take place in April after consultation with businesses near the proposed sites and any further risk analysis by City staff; and, WHEREAS, artists will be paid a $2,000 honorarium for each selected sculpture, and a Best-in-Show award of $1,000 will be made to a winner determined by the public; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the authorization of the Public Art Commission (PAC) to enter into agreements with artists for the 2025/26 Ames Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition selections is hereby granted.
