HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - February 23, 2023, AHRC MinutesMinutes AMES HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION Conference Room 235 City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue Thursday, February 23, 2023 Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:34 p.m. by Vice Chair Wayne Clinton. Commission Members Jahmai Fisher, Chunhui Chen, Lynette Plander and City of Ames Staff Liaison Deb Schildroth were also present. Public Forum: Vice Chair Clinton opened the Public Forum. No one was present to speak, and Vice Chair Clinton closed the Public Forum. Approval of Minutes: Moved by Plander, seconded by Fisher, to approve the minutes of the January 26th, 2023, meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Update on the City’s DEI Coordinator Position: Staff Liaison Schildroth provided an update on the DEI Coordinator search, sharing that references were being checked for the candidate who interviewed earlier in the month. Discussion on Updating the Strategic Plan: The Commissioners discussed revisions to the Strategic Plan and came to a consensus on the changes to the draft. The conversation focused on making the Strategic Plan more concise, reflective of the Commission’s activities, and inclusive. Postings and Social Media Content: Vice Chair Clinton volunteered to submit trivia questions for Black History Month. Commissioner Announcements: Staff Liaison Schildroth announced that City staff would be sending out another press release to promote the A Home for Everyone Award. The application deadline is March 9th, 2023, and no applications have been received to date. After the deadline, City staff will send the applications to the Commissioners by March 13th for their review. The award will be presented at the City Council meeting on April 11th, 2023, when the Fair Housing Month Proclamation will be awarded. Next Meeting: Rescheduled from March 30th to March 29th, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. Quorum can be achieved with Commissioners participating via Zoom. Adjournment: Vice Chair Clinton adjourned the meeting at 6:47 p.m.
