Fall 2024 Special Project Grant Hearings:
Town and Gown – Bill Dilla presented the 75th anniversary celebration concert project.
Five musicians will participate in a concert in early November. The concert will be held
in Ames City Auditorium. The proposal covers travel costs and the auditorium rental
fees. At Steve’s inquiry, Bill indicated that the 75th anniversary proposal was not fully
developed until after the annual grant application was prepared.
Ames Choral Society – Shannon Geisinger represented the organization’s proposal for a
website redesign. The current website is over ten years old, and it is a portal for many
people to find the organization and its concerts. The proposal is to assist with the costs
of the redesign, which will be based on a simpler and more user-friendly platform. Bids
were received from four developers. At Mary Kay’s inquiry, Shannon responded that the
hope is to use the new website for at least ten years.
Co’Motion Dance Theater – Valerie Williams described the proposal for Arts as Alchemy.
The project is a collaboration with other artists to host a two-month series of workshops
around the creation of art. Sharing sessions will take place where the artists will be able
to share what they have created through the workshops. The COTA funds would be used
to pay the artists who will be leading the sessions.
Story Theater Company – Tina Van Dyke presented the proposal for the musical
Cinderella. The performance requires more elaborate sets and costumes compared to
typical productions. Dave inquired about the timing of the decision to hold this musical.
Tina responded that it was decided in March.
