HomeMy WebLinkAboutA015 - City Election - November 7, 2023 Prepared by the Story County Auditor’s Office City Election November 7, 2023 Offices on the ballot (see reverse) Signature Requirements – cities without runoff provisions (all but Ames) a/k/a Ch. 45 Cities The minimum number of signatures needed is dependent on the size of the city.  For cities with a population between 2,500 and 7,499 (Huxley, Nevada, and Story City): at least twenty- five (25) signatures  For cities with a population of 2,499 or less (all except Huxley, Nevada, and Story City): at least ten (10) signatures For Offices Elected by Ward (Nevada Ward 1 and Nevada Ward 3) In cities where council members are only voted on by the residents of the ward, petition signers must live within the ward. Signature Requirements – cities with runoff provisions (Ames only) The minimum number of signatures needed is at least ten (10) or two percent of the number of people who voted for the office in the last regular city election, whichever is greater.  Ames Ward 1: at least thirty-eight (38) signatures  Ames Ward 2: at least twenty-seven (27) signatures  Ames Ward 3: at least thirty-nine (39) signatures  Ames Ward 4: at least twenty-five (25) signatures  Ames At-Large: at least one hundred and sixty-two (162) signatures  Hospital Trustee: at least one hundred and twenty-eight (128) signatures For Offices Elected by Ward (Ames Ward 1, Ames Ward 2, Ames Ward 3, and Ames Ward 4) In cities where council members are only voted on by the residents of the ward, petition signers must live within the ward at the time of signing the petition. Filing period Monday, August 28 – Thursday, September 21, 2023  Nomination petitions and affidavits of candidacy are filed with the city clerk.  City clerks’ offices must be open until 5:00 pm on the day of the deadline.  Affidavits must be notarized.
