HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - ASSET Meetings Minutes 02/09/23www.storycountyasset.org ASSET Meeting Minutes February 9, 2023 @ 5 pm CityChurch, 2400 Oakwood Rd, Ames The Analysis of Social Services Evaluation Team board meeting was called to order by Joel Hochstein, Vice- Chair, at 5:01PM with the following members present: Bryce Garman, Ed Gilliott, Linda Hagedorn, Becky Harker, Sandra King, Jean Kresse, Mike Lazere, Quinn Margrett, Tim Neubauer, Deb Schildroth, Jenny Schill, Sarah Schroeder, Scott Dryer, and Lois Vidimos (Administrative Assistant) WELCOME/ INTRODUCTIONS Hochstein stated that we were waiting for one more person for quorum, so proceeded to Public Forum and will come back to approve the minutes if/when quorum is met. PUBLIC FORUM Welcome to Jodi Stumbo from The Bridge Home (TBH). Jodi stated concerns about some comments about their organization, stating they have been hurtful. Stumbo stated that emergency shelter is needed and TBH does not have the resources needed, so have been turning people away. She stated she does not understand why funding was reduced. APPROVAL • September 8, 2022 Minutes: Schildroth explained these minutes were previously approved, however, no notation was made on motions at the December meeting. Gilliott moved to approved the minutesand Harker seconded. Motion passed unanimously. • December 8, 2022 Minutes:. Lazere moved to approve the minutes and Gilliott seconded. Motion passed unanimously. • January 19, 2023 Minutes: Hagedorn moved to approve the minutes and Schill seconded. Motion passed unanimously. TREASURER’S REPORT Schill reported the current balance at $892.78. She has received the additional general fund amounts of $400 from United Way, Story County and City of Ames. Schroeder updated that she is still working on obtaining the additional $400 approval from ISU Student Government. Additional funds are needed to pay for the upcoming dropbox and web hosting fees. REPORTS Kresse stated the United Way Board of Directors met the last Thursday in January and approved the recommendations as presented. King explained she will take the recommendations to the Story County Board of Supervisors on February 14th. Schildroth reported she will take the recommendations to the City Council meeting on February 14th. She also stated the City of Ames has $11,650 remaining in ASSET funds this current fiscal year for housing services. She has notified those providing housing services about these funds and how to request them if needed. www.storycountyasset.org King said Story County has $13,003 remaining this fiscal year also set aside for housing. Kresse said UW has around $85,000. She sent out an email in October 2022 and so far, two agencies have applied. NEW BUSINESS ASSET Outgoing Volunteers Kresse said that United Way has no outgoing volunteers. King reported that Story County has one, Nikki Fischer, who has moved out of the county and will complete her term at the end of March. Schildroth reported that the City of Ames has one, Jenny Schill, who has completed two terms and also her position as Treasurer. Schroeder said Student Government meets in March to discuss ASSET. Proposed Slate of ASSET Officers: Chair (Joel Hochstein, United Way Representative), Vice Chair (City of Ames Representative TBD) and Treasurer (Ron Smith, Story County Representative). Kresse explained that ASSET rotates chairs among the Funders each year. Slate will be voted on in April. 2023-2024 ASSET Calendar Kresse said we are in the process of confirming locations. Schildroth added one correction, February 8th shouldn’t have an asterisk as this date is our normal second Thursday. Garman moveded to remove asterisk on February 8, 2023 and approve the 2023-2024 calendar and Harker seconded. Motion passed unanimously. ADDITIONAL ITEMS • Schildroth said that she and Becky Harker will be making a presentation about ASSET to the Ames Public Library staff. • King brought some Story County calendars; extras by the sign in if anyone wants any. • Kresse stated that United Way is hosting a DEI meeting at the Ames Public Library on Februray 28, 2023 from noon-1:30PM with parter agencies and inviting others as well. • Schildroth said the City of Ames is hosting another Mental Health Community Conversation at the Ames Public Library on March 7, 2023 from 6:30-8:30PM on ‘Drug Use & Abuse.’ There will be a panel and 2 people who will share their stories. • King shared that Story County has a new DEI committee.
