Public Forum – no discussion today. F. Chair’s Report and Comments – no discussion today. G. City of Ames Liaison Comments – Brian Phillips, interim Liaison 1. Today’s PAC meeting is the last on the current Zoom platform. Due to security updates by Zoom, future PAC meetings will be held as webinars. This security change does not impact the Celebration Planning meetings being held as they use an access security pass. H. Old Business 1. Black Arts Festival & Music Festival a. Regarding a temporary public viewing location Olivia Madison offers the City Conference Room as consideration for this activity as it is a publicly accessible location. Other possible locations include the base of the stairwell and / or near where utilities are paid. A virtual exhibit, placed on the City’s website, may be another option. Angie DeWaard may send an email to the PAC members to gather Page 2 of 3 additional input. Also, Olivia Madison may stop by the City Hall and observe additional options bringing them to the next PAC meeting. 2. PAC projects, initiatives, events looking forward to FY20, FY21, and FY22 a. Celebration Planning for 25th Year of AAOSE and 30th Year of PAC i. The Central Planning Committee met on September 1 with Olivia Madison, Sara Sherman, Angie DeWaard, Erica Briest, Claire Kruesel, Heather Johnson, and Bob Kindred were in attendance; Kerry Dixon was unable to attend. There was good discussion on planning efforts. ii. Committee report after initial meeting on Sept 1, 2020 1) Olivia and Angie have started a spreadsheet to capture and prioritize ideas. All PAC members are encouraged to send ideas to Olivia and Angie. I. New Business 1. Dahlquist light features downtown a. Currently reaching out to various contacts regarding quotes for repair of both the brick and steel elements. Sara Sherman has been reaching out to potential contractors to request quotes for repairs. Receiving quotes for repairs may indicate how quickly this is addressed. b. Olivia Madison suggests this item is placed on a back burner to direct focus to the celebration planning efforts and other more urgent items. Perhaps a contest is launched to redesign / replace these light features to gather input on ideas and how Ames residents generally view these light features. Angie DeWaard and Brian Phillips will work to develop a post for the City’s social media and / or something on the City’s website. It was suggested to contact Susan Gwaisda for additional public interaction ideas. 2. Tim Adams Sculpture, “Resonance” and “Other Extreme”, the two pieces formerly located in Tom Evans Plaza a. The Artist has asked whether PAC has plans to display these works elsewhere or if they are being decommissioned. If decommissioning, he has stated he would take them back. Angie DeWaard’s thoughts are these art works are owned and are being repaired. Olivia Madison verified ownership is by the City, further research is needed to determine if they can be relocated. Brian Phillips looked further into this transaction and finds there is a purchase agreement allowing PAC to relocate the “Other Extreme” sculpture. He will continue looking into the agreement regarding “Resonance”. b. Suggestions include reinstalling these art pieces elsewhere in the City, possibly the Children’s Miracle Park. If these sculptures can be relocated, Erica Briest suggests braille is added to the description. Perhaps a sound loop can also be added. c. Claire Kruesel asks if a special call for artists is needed for placement in the Children’s Miracle Park as use in this location may be a bit different than other installations. This seems like a wonderfully interactive and inclusive opportunity. Can this be an initiative as part of the Celebration Planning? Brian adds once the Children’s Miracle Park is completed it is turned over the Parks and Rec for maintenance, he encourages conversation with them on art installation(s). J.
