2. Black Arts Festival & Music Festival – Outcome of Selected Artists and Artwork for City Purchase (Sara

purchases by City Council; Olivia will send Kerry photos to use in the acquisition form.
b. Angie, Brian, Claire, and Karen will examine possible City Hall locations for placement. Brian noted
that City Hall is working to remove wallpaper, which may temporarily affect art placement.
c. Cathy suggested showcasing the pieces in a very public space for a few weeks before finding them
a more permanent home. Kerry mentioned the display cabinet just inside the entrance doors
(Olivia and Brian will look into that location). Olivia suggested organizing a public ceremony with
the two artists and invited guests, including Mayor John Haile and Sheila Schofer, Director of Ames
Public Library. Claire suggested recording artists for posting online. Sara will help arrange the
event.
3. Town and Gown through the Arts—no discussion

from the City Chambers.
8. Other—no discussion
I. New Business
1. Potential Joint Collaboration with the Ames Community Arts Council (ACAC) regarding a public mural
(Penny Adam)—Penny confirmed continued interest in placing a mural, but location has not yet been
decided.
2. Transformer Cabinet Mural Project Proposal (Deb Schildroth, Assistant City Manager)—
a. Deb shared inspiration from Fort Collins, Colorado, discussed her vision for the project and invited
PAC to share how they might want to be involved in the project. She will share more details with
Olivia to consider at the next meeting.
b. Brad (Traffic Supervisor) shared considerations from his perspective in traffic:
1) The cabinets contain sensitive equipment that can be affected by heat, so the project should
not increase internal cabinet temperature.
2) The cabinets should remain visible and not blend in too much to avoid damage from
snowplows or other maintenance vehicles.
3 of 3
c. Donald (Electric Director) shared considerations from his perspective in electric:
1) Most cabinets cannot be turned off and will need to be painted when “live.”
2) Some cabinets have “fins” on the back which may complicate painting.
3) Donald echoed Brad’s concerns about avoiding internal temperature increases.
4) Cabinets have stickers that must remain visible.
5) Some cabinets are hinged to be movable, so artists should not inhibit hinges.
d. PAC discussed further ideas and concerns for this project, such as paint vs. wraps and possible
locations (note: The City wants to first pursue downtown locations as a pilot).
e. PAC members Andrew (lead), Jim, and Matthew will work with Deb (along with any new-in-April
members who might be interested) to first identify options for implementation which would
include finding out from other Fort Collins and other similar city/community projects for ideas
regarding community involvement, identification of artists, methods (e.g., wraps or paint), long-
term upkeep, etc. Following obtaining feedback, decisions will be finalized for the pilot project.
2. Other: Orientation for New Members—Cathy echoed Matthew’s previous suggestion from our last
meeting that new members be oriented to how the committee works. She also mentioned the value
of a master document that would specify common acronyms and contacts.
