1. Artists are being scheduled for AAOSE and getting the works delivered.
2. A decision is needed on the “Crossroads” sculpture. The sculpture selected becomes available May 23,
due to this a determination is needed to wait for it or substitute the artist’s similar sculpture “Crossroads

update City administration where needed.

with COTA soon to advance this grant review.
4. Arts Capital Grants Update - $200,000 in grants are available from the City of Ames
a. An inquiry has been submitted asking how to apply for the $200,000 grant monies available.
i. Brian Phillips mentions the criteria needs to be established and published, then the application
can be released for submittals from interested parties.
ii. A review and evaluation process needs to be determined for the Arts Capital Grant applications; it
makes sense to work this in partnership with COTA. Candace Zwank, Sara Sherman, and Penny
Adam will be part of this evaluation team; Angie DeWaard will make contacts between PAC and
COTA to advance this process.
5. Transformer Cabinet Mural Project Proposal
a. Sara Sherman has reviewed the bids received and looked at the products submitted for the
installation. Utilizing a variety of vendors may make sense due to the various sizes & kinds of cabinets
to be covered.
b. Sara Sherman will obtain the map of identified transformer cabinet locations from Angie DeWaard,
walk the area to determine which ones to cover, and enlist the new Main Street Director to
participate.
6. Storm Drain Intake Artwork
a. This project must have an educational aspect, such as watershed or environment; there is a budget of
$10K.
b. Sara Sherman has been in contact with Liz Calhoun to advance this project and determine which
storm drain intake locations may be best to start with. Interesting locations might include the schools
in Ames, Campus Town area, Downtown Ames, among other public locations.
7. Revamp / Revise Art in the Parks
a. Claire Kruesel is leading the effort to renew this initiative. It is thought larger scale works can be
installed in City of Ames parks by working in partnership with parks system manager.
b. Further discussion is needed on issuing a Call to Artists, frequency of these installations, funding, and
installation locations to list a few.
c. A new Art in the Park installation can be in the plaza being planned for the area east of City Hall.
Brian Phillips indicates there is time to have an art sculpture worked into the design of the plaza so
appropriate water & electricity are included. The contact for PAC within Parks & Rec will be Keith
Abraham. Claire Kruesel volunteers to chair PAC’s planning efforts; Angie DeWaard, Elias Simpson,
Erica Briest, and Paola Sepulveda will also participate.
