HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - PAC Meeting Minutes 10/04/22PUBLIC ART COMMISSION, CITY OF AMES MEETING MINUTES – October 4, 2022 AMES CITY HALL, ROOM 135 Present: Erica Briest, Saahar Kassi, Mohammad Rashid, Kyle Hauswirth, Aarman, Candace Zwank, Joseph Merchant • Meeting Commenced at 5:38 • Consent Agenda: o Move to accept the Consent Agenda- Kyle o Second- Candace Zwank o Motion Approved • Guests- None • New Member Introduction- Mohammad Rashid • Chairs Report o Octagon Art Festival- ▪ Bad- Booth almost didn’t happen, due to chair-described sabotage. • Former member of PAC spoke for PAC when they shouldn’t have. • Mentioned we didn’t have the staff to run a booth. • Location due to this wasn’t optimal, and traffic flow wasn’t great. • As such we weren’t able to educate the public as to what PAC does. ▪ Good- • Set up a time to count votes so we can call best of show and the city can get the stipend out to the artist. • Thank you to Joe, Sahar, Candace for helping run the booth • City Liason’s Report o Priscilla Sage works ▪ Waiting on the frame shop for the Priscilla Sage work. ▪ As soon as we get the information from them we will get that work going • PAC Concerns- Sahar- o PAC needs some ways to display ourselves better than what we have, so people know who we are. o Question was asked if we can coordinate with Octagon better for the festival next year. o Erica is going to ensure PAC is well represented at future events. • Current Projects o What to do with Public Arts- ▪ Check out the document that went out to the commission for edits or ideas for next meeting. o Solar Lighting- ▪ Circle Around for next meeting • Continuing Business o New location for “Riding High” ▪ 3 locations not in use suitable for the piece ▪ Hauswirth Motion to place riding high on Pad 6 on Main Street ▪ Second by Zwank ▪ Vote passed unanimously o No new information on Ice Arena Mural o Decommissioned Fire Hydrants ▪ Winners are currently painting ▪ Motion by Hauswirth to move Fire Hydrant Deadline to October 28th, ▪ Second by Merchant ▪ Vote passed unanimously o Damaged Art ▪ Replacing Monolith ▪ Candace will do some research and circle back on this next meeting. ▪ Question was raised if we want to utilize all of the roundabouts on that area to use art to tell a story. o Sculpture/Art representation at bus stops ▪ Joe mentioned in Seattle that there is artistic representation of transfer points to make things easier for tourists. Thought this might be a cool idea to bring forward to Ames. ▪ Tactile art might make it also easier for accessibility. o Extra Projects • Motion to Adjourn- Hauswirth o Second- Merchant o Meeting Adjourned at 6:45
