HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - PAC Meeting Minutes 09/06/22PUBLIC ART COMMISSION, CITY OF AMES MEETING MINUTES – SEPTEMBER 6, 2022 AMES CITY HALL, ROOM 135 Present: Erica Briest, Candace Zwank, Joe Merchant, Sahar Kaissi, Oakley Cadogan Guest: Keith Abraham (Parks & Recreation Dept) • 17:38 p.m. Meeting called to order • Consent agenda: Moved by Merchant; 2nd Candace Zwank. • Keith Abraham: Presented information about Eagle Art Sculpture created by Paul Shao—retired professor of architecture in memorial to Dan and Susie Zaffarano who took him under his wing as a grad student. This is donated art with funding for installation by artist to be placed at Ada Hayden Park if all agree. Abraham has already presented it to Parks and Rec Commission and plans to present to Friends of Ada Hayden. There was discussion of site of placement and need for lighting. Candace Zwank moved and Oakley Cadogan seconded to support including this art in the PAC inventory if it is accepted for installation at Ada Hayden. This was unanimously accepted. • Chair’s Report: Octagon Art Festival planning September 25 9:30-4PM: Volunteers were sought and those present agreed to volunteer. • Monolith was de-accessioned due to catastrophic damage. • Ice-Arena Mural Project: Continued need for feedback from Taylor Bassett. • Priscilla Sage—Town and Gown will be appraised of progress on this project. • Motion: “to authorize PAC funds to be used to frame P. Sage pieces in UV protected plexiglass with use of security binding for hanging (to prevent removal).” This motion was made by Oakley Cadogan and 2nd by Joe Merchant. • Fire Hydrant Project: Motion to approve $75 per piece for sandblasting made by Oakley Cadogan and 2nd Joe Merchant. • Solar Lighting: Sahar presented project to possibly light 10 sculptures. Before proceeding inventory of all PAC sculptures needs to be completed (Carly / Olivia are 98% done) • Monolith Replacement: Discussion. The insurance payment and restitution of drunk driver have not been finalized and may not be finalized for some time. Will need to continue to consider options going forward as to how much money from PAC funds to put towards replacement (including proper lighting) • Adjourn 18:38 p.m. (Motion by Merchant with a second by Zwank) Joe Merchant
