MEETING MINUTES – March 7th, 2023
AMES CITY HALL, ROOM 135
In Attendance: Erica Briest, Kyle Hauswirth, Candace Zwank, Angie DeWaard, Joseph Merchant,

• Meeting called to order at 5:34
• Consent Agenda-
o Move to Approve: Kyle Hauswirth

▪ Writing an Article about PAC
• Chair’s Report
o Last Meeting got a little heated in discussions, and the Chair hopes we can remain more
civil than that in the future.
o Nothing is personal, this is just business.
o Thank Joe and Angie for helping with behind the scenes work in between the meetings,
and we needed an AAOSE Jury and they helped put that together.
• City Liaison’s Comments
o 3 years ago, we had the 25th anniversary for PAC
o Project was done as a prt of that for Parks and Rec related photos
▪ Those photos were supposed to go in the new Golf Clubhouse
▪ Those weren’t done at the time, and it slipped between the cracks, but it is
being done now.
o Last 6 months we have been having trouble getting the frame shop to respond on the
Priscilla Sage pieces, and it might be a few months before those are finished.
• Status Updates
o Solar Lighting Project
▪ Moved to Remove from Status Updates as it has been tacked on to another
project as a pilot.
• Hauswirth

o Fire Hydrants-
▪ Easy project, and reuses city resources, and should be easy to do going forward.
▪ This should be tied in to our official rotation
▪ Parks and Rec likes the idea of putting these near Mutt Mitt stations around
Ames.
• New and Continuing Business-
o AAOSE Jury-
▪ Jury Members
• Bob Kindred (Former PAC Liaison)
• Dan McClanahan (Local Artist)
• Maureen Tuggle (Art Lover)
▪ Motion to approve AAOSE Jury as sat in the Agenda

• Approved Unanimously
▪ Jury Convened Last Friday and made their selections
• Listed in the back of the Agenda
▪ Move to approve AAOSE Selections

• Second: Merchant
• Unanimous Approval
o Neighborhood Art
▪ Subcommittee went over the application
• 4 applications and 3 of them wanted flushing mallards
• 3 neighborhoods contacted and asked to select an alternate, and 2 of
them decided not to pick and alternate.
• Indian Grass neighborhood gave 2 alternates.
▪ Want to Purchase Heartbeat of the Heartland for the Indian Grass
Neighborhood
▪ Want to Purchase Symmetry for the Sunset Ridge Neighborhood
▪ Motion to approve purchases of pieces for neighborhood art: DeWaard
• Second: Merchant

▪ Problem Pedestals
• Angie contacted a Main Street representative
• They liked the option of removing the pedestals and saving the
terracotta relief.
• Motion to recommend deaccession to City Council

▪ PAC Booth items for Festival Appearances
• Do we need to order chairs?
• Asked Brian to check to see if we have chairs already.
• Brian will make a list of what we have and bring his recommendations
on what he thinks we should buy.
▪ AMES
• CyRide is willing to talk further about it
• CyRide staff is looking for a true proposal
• They are interested, but they would like to see a one pager on what we
are actually proposing.
• Dr. Merchant will work to create a memo/one pager describing what
this is envisioned as.
▪ Roundabout Subcommittee
• Nothing to report now due to health issues
• Per Angie’s recommendation Candace is reaching out to Michelle to see
if she has contacts that could assist in financing the project.
▪ Ice Arena Mural
• 9 proposals for the Mural!
• Committee has been sat to review the proposals and decide if we want
to pick one, or call artists in for interviews
• Non-Local Artists
• Committee will make their recommendations to PAC by the April
