This amount means it requires much higher approval and calls for bids than just PAC getting an estimate. 2) PAC voted to decide which group of 10 sculptures needs to be lit up at night the most and do those first to see how well they handle Iowa weather. If things seem to go well, PAC may decide to purchase more lighting in groups of 10 due to cost. D) VIII) New and Continuing Business – Action Needed A) Select Location for “Riding High” B) Ice Arena Mural request (Angie DeWaard)(1min) 1) Taylor Bassett, ice arena manager, has requested a mural potentially be put in the stairway at the arena if funding could become available. (a) PAC discussed classifying the ice arena as a park so money could be shuffled around to provide funding from the Art in the Parks budget line. The Ice arena is operated by the parks and recreation department of the City of Ames (jointly with ISU). (b) Awaiting input from Taylor, as she is looking at project intern ally. C) Decommissioned Fire Hydrants (Angie DeWaard) (5 min) 1) Winners have been selected and are receiving their hydrants. 2) Hydrants will be dropped off at winners’ homes to be painted and then picked up to be brought back in and properly sealed before being installed at the Dog Park. 3) PAC needs to select a new deadline for the painting to be complete, as the original deadline is not feasible (October 5th) because of the delay from receiving them due to the sandblasting process. D) Damaged art (everyone)(10 min) 1) Monolith has been deaccessioned. How are we going to replace the sculpture is the thing that remains open for discussion. E) Sculptures of different animals/objects at each CyRide transfer point for people/drivers to refer to when directing people around the transit system. We get a lot of visitors and out of country students that have a hard time when they first get here. Simple sculptures would help not only them, but also the visually impaired community. (Joe)(5 min) F) Discussion of next project (5 min) 1) These are just some ideas that have come up (a) Adopt-an-Intersection (Art in the center of the intersection) (b) Decals for AAOSE (pending Main Street approval) (c) Mural contest in Ames Parks (d) Possible tattoo festival tie-in for “Modern Art Festival” IX) For the Good of the Order – Group Discussion / New Ideas (5 min) X) Adjournment (Erica Briest) Next Scheduled PAC Meeting: Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 5:30 pm Upcoming/Recent Dates of Note: • October is Breast Cancer & Domestic Violence Awareness Month! • Oct 5th World Teacher’s Day • Oct 10th World Mental Health Day • Oct 11th Indigenous Peoples’ Day • Oct 16th World Food Day
