currently.
(a) PAC discussed trying to partner with the ice arena/Parks & Rec on fundraising
to pay for this mural. Angie has sent an email to Taylor inquiring about this
possibility.
(b) Awaiting input from Taylor, as she is looking at project internally.
G) Flo-esque Sculpture at Gilman Courtyard (Claire Kruesel)
1) Claire found a sculpture that looks a lot like Flo in the cordoned-off courtyard at
Gilman. Photo at bottom of agenda. Wondering about rejoining the two.
2) University Museums reports that this is not in their collection, so Claire will ask
around.
3) Members expressed interest, also, in state of piece.
VII) New and Continuing Business – Action Needed
A) Priscilla Sage Pieces in City Auditorium (5 min)
1) Message received on City website from Tom Jackson originally inquiring about
lighting for pieces.
2) No information found in archives, so inquiries were made by Olivia and Aspen.
No information from either, but Aspen received information from Auditorium
management. Pieces are beyond repair.
3) Remaining members of Collection Management will review the pieces, and we
will vote to decommission at January meeting pending that decision.
4) Olivia was getting ready to write up deaccession request for all five pieces in
auditorium for January and went to view them, and they are all gone? Olivia and
Brian are trying to track them down.
5) Carly sent deaccession notice on Feb. 16, 2022
6) Tom Jackson attended meeting on March 2, 2022
(a) Priscilla Sage to be contacted to review state of pieces. If they can/should be
repaired, we will look for alternate locations for hanging
(b) Brian to review city auditorium paperwork for verbiage on renters removing
artwork
(c) We are looking at internal processes on how to improve information on how
to care for pieces. If pieces need unique care long-term, we need to look at
either maintaining them as a commission or hiring individuals (within City or
outside) to care for them. We will want to consider this when purchasing new
pieces.
B) Decommissioned Fire Hydrants (Angie DeWaard) (5 min)
1) Joseph recommended that we try and decorate decommissioned fire hydrants, as
we opted not to take on the live ones due to safety concerns.
2) Angie is in discussion with Dale Weber of Public Works and Keith Abraham of
Parks & Rec about placing these at the dog park (both inside and outside of fence)
and animal shelter.
(a) Group would like to take this on. Suggested also branching it out to place
hydrants near the doggie bag stations in local parks.
(b) There are about seven hydrants currently available, and there are usually ~10
new decommissioned ones each year.
(c) Pads cost around $500 - $1000, but these may not require a pad.
3) We will need to figure out a program and how it will look.
C) Discussion of next project (10 min)
1) Aspen going to send email with call for ideas, and poll
(a) Please feel free to email ideas, but a last call will be made
2) Several items from previous poll were provided/discussed
(a) Adopt-an-Intersection
(b) Decals for AAOSE (pending Main Street approval)
(c) Mural contest in Ames Parks
(d) Possible tattoo festival tie-in for “Modern Art Festival” – other ideas?
(e) Olivia mentioned commissioning a piece from Priscilla Sage to replace the
decommissioned items
