(a) Neighborhood Art
(1) Subcommittee met mid-January (Erica, Aspen, Penny, Claire)
(b) AAOSE – Entries opened Oct. 1, 2021, and close Jan. 28, 2022
(1) Olivia is looking for any ideas for potential judges. Potentially ones with ties to Main
Street or the schools.
2) Public Relations (Paola Sepulveda and Sara Sherman Co-Chairs; Taylor Carlson)
(a) Digital frames for festival and events (Elias Simpson) - document from Elias with research
(No action needed immediately, for future discussion)
3) Collection Management (Angie DeWaard - Chair; Olivia Madison, Claire Kruesel, and Karen George)
(a) PAC Collection GIS Database (Paola and Angie)
(b) “This is Living” AAOSE piece – quarter stuck in ear, Carly researching
(d) Glowforge Laser Cutter (Candace Zwank) (No action needed immediately, for future
discussion)

A) Quick review of last meeting
1) Liz Calhoun, Stormwater Resource Analyst from Public Works, attended to discuss storm drain
intake project (see noted under Section VI, topic B)
V) City of Ames Liaison Comments/Updates (Brian Phillips)
VI) Status Updates - No Action Needed Today
A) Transformer Cabinet Wrap Contest (Sara Sherman)
1) Jan. 10 – release call for artists
2) Feb. 15 – deadline
3) $100 award for selected art
B) Storm Drain Intake Artwork Contest (Sara Sherman)
1) Jan. 10 – release call for artists
2) Feb. 15 deadline
3) Web link is available at top of PAC website
C) Potential wording change to Deaccession Policy (Angie DeWaard and Candace Zwank)
1) Angie did initial revamp of wording, Candace reviewing and making notes
2) Currently on hold pending annual review of documentation
D) Revamp / Revise Art in the Parks (Claire Kruesel)
1) Subcommittee has discussed doing one large project in each park as focus.
E) “What Not To Do With Public Art” features on social media
1) We have discussed holding this idea until after we swap out AAOSE sculptures
F) Ice Arena Mural request (Angie DeWaard)
1) Taylor Bassett, ice arena manager, has requested a mural potentially be put in the landing of the
stairs (see photos at end of agenda). Does not have a budget currently.
(a) PAC discussed trying to partner with the ice arena/Parks & Rec on fundraising to pay for this
mural. Angie has sent an email to Taylor inquiring about this possibility.
(b) Awaiting input from Taylor, as she is looking at project internally.
G) Flo-esque Sculpture at Gilman Courtyard (Claire Kruesel)
1) Claire found a sculpture that looks a lot like Flo in the cordoned-off courtyard at Gilman. Photo at
bottom of agenda. Wondering about rejoining the two.
2) University Museums reports that this is not in their collection, so Claire will ask around.
3) Members expressed interest, also, in state of piece.
VII) New and Continuing Business – Action Needed
A) Review of PAC documentation (10 min)
B) Priscilla Sage Pieces in City Auditorium (5 min)
1) Message received on City website from Tom Jackson originally inquiring about lighting for pieces.
2) No information found in archives, so inquiries were made by Olivia and Aspen. No information
from either, but Aspen received information from Auditorium management. Pieces are beyond
repair.
3) Remaining members of Collection Management will review the pieces, and we will vote to
decommission at January meeting pending that decision.
4) Olivia was getting ready to write up deaccession request for all five pieces in auditorium for January
and went to view them, and they are all gone? Olivia and Brian are trying to track them down.
C) Decommissioned Fire Hydrants (5 min)
1) Joseph recommended that we try and decorate decommissioned fire hydrants, as we opted not to
take on the live ones due to safety concerns.
2) Angie is in discussion with Dale Weber of Public Works and Keith Abraham of Parks & Rec about
placing these at the dog park (both inside and outside of fence) and animal shelter.
(a) Group would like to take this on. Suggested also branching it out to place hydrants near the
doggie bag stations in local parks.
(b) There are about seven hydrants currently available, and there are usually ~10 new
decommissioned ones each year.
(c) Pads cost around $500 - $1000, but these may not require a pad.
3) We will need to figure out a program and how it will look.
D) Discussion of next project (10 min)
1) Aspen going to send email with call for ideas, and poll
(a) Please feel free to email ideas, but a last call will be made
2) Several items from previous poll were provided/discussed
(a) Adopt-an-Intersection
(b) Decals for AAOSE (pending Main Street approval)
(c) Mural contest in Ames Parks
(a) Possible tattoo festival tie-in for “Modern Art Festival” – other ideas?
