REQUEST FROM TOWN AND GOWN (received 9/28/20):
Town & Gown Chamber music association received a Special Project Grant to support an
elementary / middle school education outreach event by the Merz Trio. We are working with the
Merz Trio to provide a virtual outreach event, instead of the originally planned in-person outreach.
We request the following modifications to the grant:
1. Allowing us to use the originally requested support for artist lodging to support production
costs instead. The Merz Trio has access to high-quality production facilities at the New
England Conservatory of Music in Boston. However, there are production costs associated
with personnel and facility rental that Ames Town and Gown will need to cover.
2. Extending the grant period into spring 2020 if necessary. We currently plan to have the
outreach sometime around Beethoven's 250th birthday (December 16, 2020). However, due
to the uncertainties surrounding face-to-face music education, it is quite possible that we
may have to postpone the event until sometime in spring 2021.
Thanks for your help on this.
Regards,
Bill Dilla

REQUEST FROM OCTAGON (received 10/01/20):
Dear Ames Commission on the Arts-
The Octagon Center for the Arts is inquiring to see if COTA would consider roll over of the small project
grant that was to support Chalk the Block at the Octagon art festival in September 2020. This project was a
partnership between the Octagon and the Public Art Commission to create a free community chalk event.
Due to the pandemic virus, the festival was canceled for safety reasons. Next year, September 2021, the
Octagon art festival would be hosting its 50th festival. Next year also happens to coincide with the Public
Arts Commission celebrating its 30th anniversary. We think it would be a great opportunity for chalk the
block to still take place next year and celebrate two very special cultural anniversaries with the community
chalk project during the art festival. We truly appreciate your consideration and are happy to answer any
questions regarding the special project of chalk the block. Thank you.
