Motion carried unanimously.
Public Forum:
There was no one present for Public Forum
Tenant/Landlord Relations:
Devyn introduced himself. He noted that he had gathered the list of issues he had heard
from student renters regarding rental housing. He described the issues. Pete suggested
that these points would be good to raise with landlords at the meeting on July 16th from
noon to 1:30 p.m. at Pizza Ranch to ask for a response. The Commission discussed
whether there are updated tips and questions to be included on Rent Smart Ames.
Discussion turned to the meeting with landlords. Pete suggested the Commission tell
them who they are, the charge of the Commission, and what they are seeing in terms of
issues. Brian reminded the Commission that one of the questions the Council raised
was what landlords wished the students knew before renting. Sandeep agreed to
prepare a handout outlining the discussion points and would send it around.
Commissioner Comments:
Pete raised the property rating service that was previously discussed. He was not
certain whether that was still of interest to students.
It was moved by Eric, seconded by Pete, to designate Eric, Pete, Martha, and Sandeep
on behalf of the Commission to develop the document to use with landlords at the July
16th meeting.
Motion carried unanimously.
Warren asked whether there were other college communities facing this issue, that the
Commission could learn from.
Adjourn:
Pete moved to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
