HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - CCC Minutes 06/24/19Minutes CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY COMMISSION Conference Room 235 City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue Monday, June 24, 2019 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. by Chair Sandeep Stanley. Members present were Eric Abrams, Evelyn Beavers, Martha Broadnax, Pete Englin, Warren Madden, and Ian Steenhoek. Tom Lindsley was not present. Ex Officio City Council Liaison Devyn Leeson and staff liaison Brian Phillips were also present. Approval of Minutes: It was moved by Pete, seconded by Warren, to approve the minutes of May 20, 2019. Motion carried unanimously. Public Forum: There was no one present for Public Forum Tenant/Landlord Relations: Devyn introduced himself. He noted that he had gathered the list of issues he had heard from student renters regarding rental housing. He described the issues. Pete suggested that these points would be good to raise with landlords at the meeting on July 16th from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Pizza Ranch to ask for a response. The Commission discussed whether there are updated tips and questions to be included on Rent Smart Ames. Discussion turned to the meeting with landlords. Pete suggested the Commission tell them who they are, the charge of the Commission, and what they are seeing in terms of issues. Brian reminded the Commission that one of the questions the Council raised was what landlords wished the students knew before renting. Sandeep agreed to prepare a handout outlining the discussion points and would send it around. Commissioner Comments: Pete raised the property rating service that was previously discussed. He was not certain whether that was still of interest to students. It was moved by Eric, seconded by Pete, to designate Eric, Pete, Martha, and Sandeep on behalf of the Commission to develop the document to use with landlords at the July 16th meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Warren asked whether there were other college communities facing this issue, that the Commission could learn from. Adjourn: Pete moved to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
