Next Steps for Campustown Plaza Focus Group:
Karin asked whether the group had the opportunity to review the materials from the focus group and
what their thoughts were. Eric felt the focus group meeting went well. He encouraged focusing on
the most popular areas from the “Should Include” and “Shouldn’t Include” lists. Evelyn noted that
green space was on both lists. She felt that green space would be a positive. Karin suggested that
vegetable gardens like downtown would not work well, because plants get pulled out.

Eric noted that it would be interesting to talk with other college communities about public restrooms
and how they operate in college districts.
Karin asked the group if they were in agreement that they were ready to put a report together for the
Council. The consensus was they were. She noted the theme she saw related to flexible space,
which could be used for day-to-day activities (seating, eating, etc.), and also for specific activities.
Pete offered to draft a report and work with Brian to get the details filled in. then the report can be
distributed to the rest of the Commission. It was moved by Karin, seconded by Pete, to move the
regular March meeting to a phone meeting on March 19th at 6:00 p.m., with the agenda item being to
edit and approve the Campustown Plaza report, to be delivered at the City Council meeting on
March 27. Motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Comments:
Meghana noted that she had discussed the concept of having graduate student work displayed at
the Farmer’s Market, and she would like to pursue that through the Commission. She proposed that
the Commission act as a facilitator between student groups and the community. Karin noted that
there was some discussion of these kinds of efforts during the initial conversations about the role of
the Commission.
