HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - CCC Minutes 10/26/20Minutes CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY COMMISSION Meeting was held via Zoom due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue Ames, IA 50010 Monday, October 26, 2020 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:02pm by Chair Sandeep Stanley. Members Present: Warren Madden, Tom Lindsley, Karin Chitty, and Mason Zastrow Member(s) Absent: Pete Englin, Evelyn Beavers, and Eric Abrams Staff Liaison: Deb Schildroth Approval of Minutes: Warren moved approval of the September 28, 2020 minutes and Tom seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Public Forum: There was no one present for Public Forum. City Council’s Direction on Addressing Tenant/Landlord Issues: A. Revamp and promote RentSmart Ames website and use other forms of informational material with the input of tenants and landlords. Analytics from the Rent Smart Ames website were further reviewed. Topics from the website that showed frequent hits across the age groups were: • CyRide/transportation • Noise ordinance • Parking • Tenant responsibilities • Landlord responsibilities Other topics of interest were parking regulations and property maintenance/regulations. There are just over 1,000-page views, so it’s important to exercise caution when interpreting the information. Commission members reviewed a student survey that was created by Vanessa Baker- Latimer, Karin Chitty, and Deb Schildroth. The purpose of the survey is to gain feedback on whether or not students are aware of the Rent Smart Ames website, what information is helpful and/or missing, and how useful is the website. Since the fall semester is scheduled to end the day before Thanksgiving, it was determined that waiting until the beginning of the spring semester (January 25, 2021) may be better timing in surveying the students. In the meantime, a landlord survey will be developed and sent out. We’d like to specifically reach out to those landlords using the Rent Smart Ames website to advertise vacancies. Results from both surveys will help determine website changes and updates. B. Explore potential expansion of the Story County mediation pilot project. There was no new information to share on this project. Commissioner Comments: None Next Meeting: Monday, November 23, 2020 at 6:00pm. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 6:58pm.
