HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - CCC Minutes 01/25/21MINUTES CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY COMMISSION Meeting was held via Zoom due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue Ames, IA 50010 Monday, January 25, 2021 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:10pm by Staff Liaison Deb Schildroth Members Present: Evelyn Beavers, Karin Chitty, Peter Englin, Warren Madden, and Mason Zastrow Member(s) Absent: Eric Abrams and Tom Lindsley Staff Liaison: Deb Schildroth Approval of Minutes: Warren Madden moved approval of the November 23 , 2020 minutes. Peter Englin seconded. Motion carried unanimously. Public Forum: There was no one present for Public Forum. Chair Sandeep Stanley entered the meeting at 6:17pm. City Council’s Direction on Addressing Tenant/Landlord Issues: A. Revamp and promote RentSmart Ames website and use other forms of informational material with the input of tenants and landlords: Landlords and property managers, including those who attended the November 11 th ISU housing fair, have been sent a survey and the deadline to respond is February 12th. The current item in standing is sending out the student survey now that the spring semester is in session. Suggestions were made as how to best communicate the survey. The Commission decided to pursue sending a mass email to all Iowa State Students through the Solution Center at the University. There is an associated cost with sending mass emails – $26.00 per email. Assistant City Manager Schildroth stated the City could cover the cost. There may be as many as two (2) mass emails sent so a cost of $52.00. Stanley will draft the email and a follow-up reminder email for review by the Commission before beginning the mass email process. Discussion was had on possible ways to promote the survey beyond the mass email to ensure student participation. No decision was made, further discussion will occur following the review of the mass email draft. B. Explore potential expansion of the Story County mediation pilot project: At the previous meeting, discussion was had regarding mediation program services. Assistant City Manager Schildroth updated the Commission on the status of this program stating the Story County court system has not started providing online dispute mediation (ODM) services, yet. The planning committee working on establishing the service will be reviewing a study by the University of Arizona on a similar program. Assistant City Manager Schildroth provided an update for eviction extension. The Biden Administration has extended the eviction moratorium until March 31, 2021. Commissioner Comments: Chitty inquired about the number of responses received for the landlord survey. Assistant City Manager Schildroth will check responses this week and send the Commission a summary of the numbers. Chitty offered to contact the landlords directly to help increase survey response numbers if necessary. Next Meeting: Monday, February 22, 2021 at 6:00pm. Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 6:47pm.
