(a) Neighborhood Art (Erica) – City Council has approved selections.
(b) AAOSE (Erica) – Contracts have been sent to artists.

(a) Digital frames or felt frame display for festival and events?
Need to decide. Wind is a huge problem at our booths!

A. Art in the Parks (Angie, Joe, Candace, Kyle) (5 min)
1) Call for Artists has been drafted for Hira Park project
2) $25,000 budget
B. “What To Do With Public Art” features on social media (Kyle)(5 mins)
C. Decommissioned Fire Hydrants (Angie)(3 mins)
1) Identify locations by dog waste bag dispensers in parks for additional
painted hydrants
VIII) New and Continuing Business – Action Needed
A. Officer elections (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer)
B. Subcommittee signups: This is your chance to PICK your subcommittee
lest one be ASSIGNED to you (Collection Mgmt, Public Relations,
Outreach)
C. Ice Arena Mural (Angie/Erica)(10 min)
1) Finalizing a selected artist to recommend to PAC
2) $10,000 budget to paint a mural on the arena stairway this summer
D. Roundabout Subcommittee (Candace, Joe, Mohammad, Erica, Michele) (2
min)
1) Working with ISU Research Park on this undertaking
2) Budget includes $4,000 in restitution received for Monolith damage
and $5,000 commitment from ISU Research Park. Staff recommends
allocating another $16,000-$20,000 from the excess balance in the
AAOSE budget line (currently $41,083 before 2023/24 expenses;
typical annual AAOSE expenses are $20,000).
3) Next step is to finalize the budget and selection criteria and prepare
the Call for Artists.
E. AMES (Accessible Map-Envisioning Sculptures) (Joe) (10 mins) Sculptures
of different animals/objects at each CyRide transfer point for
people/drivers to refer to when directing people around the transit
system. We get a lot of visitors and out of country students that have a
hard time when they first get here. Simple sculptures would help not
only them, but also the visually impaired community.
1) CyRide wants a specific proposal of what we are wanting to do
2) Joe & a couple of volunteers will help work up the proposal
F. Proposal from Otocast to create AAOSE audio guide
1) Allows a user to use their smart phone to learn more about each
sculpture through a recording from the artist
2) PAC has purchased this service for AAOSE in the past
3) Typically $500-$1,000 in cost
G. PAC Booth items for festival appearances (Brian)(10 mins)
1) New tent?
2) Chairs?
3) Banners/table display (wind proof)?
4) PAC tchotchkes to give away (pens, stickers, etc)?
H. Problem Pedestals (Erica & Angie)(10 min)
1) Six of the brick pedestals with art reliefs on 5th Street are in the
pedestrian pathway
2) Ames Main Street supports deaccessioning all the pedestals and saving
the reliefs to be used in other places like park benches, a special art
piece like a wall, etc.
3) PAC voted to follow Main Street’s guidance and remove all the
pedestals, saving the reliefs wherever possible to be used in other
places.
4) Before deaccession is considered by City Council, City staff is
researching the costs to complete the removal.
I. Discussion of next project (time permitting)(5 min)
1) These are just some ideas that have come up
1) Adopt-an-Intersection (Art in the center of (approved) intersection)
2) Decals for AAOSE (pending Main Street approval)
3) Mural contest in Ames Parks
4) Possible tattoo festival tie-in for “Modern Art Festival”
