RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR
MIDNIGHT MADNESS ROAD RACE EVENTS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the annual Midnight Madness races will be held at the Ames Fitness Center
South (ISU Research Park) on Saturday, July 13, 2024, and the event includes 5k, 10k, and kid
runs, followed by a pizza party at Ames Fitness Center South; and,
WHEREAS, an estimated 500 people will enter all the races and approximately 500
spectators will be at the event; and,
WHEREAS, organizers are requesting the following street closures on Saturday, July 13,
2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for the Midnight Madness races: Collaboration Place Road to
South Riverside Drive (north side lane); South Riverside Drive North to Airport Road (west side
lane); Airport Road between South Riverside Drive and South Loop Drive (south side of east
bound traffic); South Loop Drive (east side of road); and University Boulevard from Cottonwood
Road to Collaboration Place (east side of road); and,
WHEREAS, the Public Works Traffic Division will provide barricades and traffic cones
to facilitate this event,blocking a dedicated running lane while allowing vehicle traffic to continue
using the other lanes; and,
WHEREAS, the Midnight Madness organizers have also obtained a Noise Permit for this
event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the aforementioned street closures for the Midnight Madness Road Race events on Saturday,
July 13, 2024, are hereby approved.
