RESOLUTION APPROVING DOT GRANT APPLICATION FOR THE 2022/23
AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM (SOUTH APRON REHAB)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, on April 25, 2023, the City Council conditionally awarded the South Apron
Rehabilitation project at the James Herman Banning Ames Municipal Airport to Con-Struct of
Ames, Iowa, in the amount of$1,251,705, contingent upon 1) the receipt and execution of the
agreements for Federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,2)Federal Entitlement, and 3) State Airport
Improvement Program grants in amounts necessary to finance the project expenditures; and,
WHEREAS, grant applications for federal funding have already been submitted to the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA requires bid amounts and a signature from the
sponsor's designee (in this case, the Traffic Engineer). However, the Iowa Department of
Transportation (DOT) requires a resolution with its funding applications. Therefore, the City's
consultant, Bolton &Menk, has prepared a state funding agreement; and,
WHEREAS,by approving this state grant application,the City will only still need approval
of the two federal grant applications. At that point, the South Apron Rehabilitation project can
proceed as planned.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Iowa DOT Grant application for the 2022/23 Airport Improvements Program(South Apron
Rehab) is hereby approved.
