HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Signed D&O for 1801 Ridgewood AveIN THE MATTER OF THE APPLICATION CASE NO. 23-04 OF KGI WIRELESS ON BEHALF OIL VERIZON WIRELESS, FOR AN PARCEL IDS: 05-34-300-010 AMENDED SPECIAL USE PERMIT RELATED TO A CELLULAR TOWER, AS DECISION & ORDER PROVIDED BY AMES MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 29.1307(8) CELL SITE STANDARDS, FOR PROPERTY AT 1801 RIDGEWOOD AVENUE FACTS This application came before the Board for a Special Use Permit to allow for installation of mounted antennas and large stealth canisters on an existing stealth monopole located at 1801 Ridgewood Avenue, The height of the existing tower is to remain the same. Planner Benjamin Campbell stated that the request pertains to an existing cell tower located behind Ames High School; construction of the tower was originally approved in 2005 the Board. The proposal is to remove the top canister, which is 34 inches in diameter and 10-feet-tall, and replace it with another, which is 37 inches in diameter and the same height. The Board must approve the request because there is a change in the profile. Staff found that the request met the requirements of the Municipal Code. The original Special Use Permit had six, 6-foot pine trees at the base of the tower that are no longer at the site. Staff made recommended the imposition of certain conditions as set forth in the staff report, if the Board granted the permit. FINDINGS AND DECISION The Board considered the facts as detailed above and provided in the Staff Report, the testimony presented at the hearing, and adopted the Factual Findings and Conclusions in the Staff Report and found that the project met the criteria consistent with zoning standards as established by the Applicant under Section 29.1307(8) of the Ames City Municipal Code. ORDER WHEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED that the Special Use Pen -nit be GRANTED to allow for replacement of 10 feet of an existing 34-inch stealth canister with a new 37-inch stealth canister and the addition of new interior mounted antennas and association equipment located at 1801 Ridgewood Avenue, with the following conditions: A. The final color of the pole and cannisters shall match, which may require the repainting of the pole to match the cannisters. The fittings and straps of the cannisters shall also be aligned and secured to ensure a consistent aesthetic and appearance. The pole and cannisters shall be maintained in an ongoing manner with a consistent color and fit. B. The six 6-foot-tall pine trees shall be replanted along the east side of the enclosure. C. The fence shall be brought into good repair. The fence should be 8-foot tall, per the original permit approved. Any person desiring to appeal this decision to a court of record may do so within thirty (30) days after the filing of this decision. Dated this 14"' day of June 2023.
