Thank you for submitting your application for a Special Use Permit for 525 E 2nd Street. The City of
Ames Planning and Housing Department is pleased to assist with the project. We find that the
application and materials you have submitted are complete, in accordance with Ames Municipal
Code Section 29.1502(3)(c).
have been assigned to coordinate the processing of your request. The materials you submitted
will be reviewed and a staff report prepared and conveyed to the Zoning Board of Adjustment
(ZBA). I will contact you with any questions that I may have.
Your Special Use Permit request will be heard at the next available ZBA meeting, which is
scheduled for Thursday, November 12, 2020. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. A copy
of the ZBA's packet will be sent to you on the Friday before the meeting.
The ZBA meeting will be a public hearing. Prior to the meeting, notification of your application will
be sent to property owners within 200 feet, a sign will be posted on the property, and a notice
published in the newspaper. You or your representative should plan to connect to the Zoom to
meeting. You will be given the opportunity to address the Board and to answer their questions. If

CrossFit Facility
The facility will not be completely open to public use like a fitness center or a health club. The
way the gym will operate is by set class times (M-F: 5:30am, 6:30am, 9:00am, 12:00pm,
4:00pm, 5:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am). Classes are always coach led by a CrossFit certified
trainer. Personal training can be offered, but again, these sessions are during scheduled times.
Class sizes can range from just a few people u to a dozen. The training will take place within

the building and all equipment is located within the building. The gym will have a carpeted
lobby area which will take up about 1/3 of the space on the south end; including 2 office
rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 showers, and seating. The gym area will take about the remaining 2/3 of
the building. The retail side will primarily be based upon month to month memberships and
personal training sessions. We will also have clothing merchandise for sale.
Employees
3 employees which will include myself.
Parking
Spaces have not yet been striped due to letting the newly poured cement cure, however they
will be striped once it does cure. Also, for the proposed facility, they will be striped
appropriately pending approval for being able to operate.
